Try to get away from a computer screen as early as possible, settle down and perhaps read a book or a magazine- none of the dirty kind like!

Going back to this, if anyone does struggle to sleep after being on the computer late then download something called F.lux - you can set it to gradually adjust your screen to inside lights once it gets to dusk. I use it and it's awesome :)

Just downloaded it. Very orangey

Yeah it changes the white hue to match your room lights as opposed to being bright white like it would during the day..... if that makes sense!?

Yeah it's alright. Calms my eyes a bit

Good shout man, rep'd! <ok>

Avoid alcohol and carbohydrates in the evenings and stretch your muscles as you lie in bed. I suffered really badly from insomnia years ago and these steps sorted me out.

A 2 or 3mg Valium tablet will do the trick.
Need a prescription though or know a "doctor" (if you know what I mean) although some of the polish shops tend to sell it as well as red eye drops to help relieve bloodshot eyes (wonder what that means about the Polish <laugh>)
I got some prescribed for insomnia a few years back, it's also prescribed for anxiety and depression.
Don't overdo them though as they have a half life of 48 hours, I took two 10mg ones by mistake once and was drifting in and out of sleep for days!

My housemate took valium the other day and was falling asleep standing up

Will try and remember that one then for if I ever need it (highly unlikely I will). How does insomnia come about anyway? Does it just suddenly come up?

It can come up through anything really - generally a symptom of something, although you can have it an be perfectly healthy.
Mine was probably through stress and I was going out loads, got used to a lack of sleep so even when I didn't go out I couldn't get to sleep.
I kinda have a few methods now to get past it and make sure I at least get one full cycle of sleep a night (4 hours), I try and sleep in 4 hour increments too as it always means I'm well rested.

I've had chronic insomnia pretty much all my life, fun stuff... It definitely helps to have some kind of routine, like work or school, where you have to be up at certain times, but when I don't have that mine runs rampant. I wish we had 30+ hour days.

I can rarely sleep and this album never fails to either help me to sleep or put me in a calm state so I'm much less tired the next day.
