I'm not really up on the whole twitter thing. What I have done is passed comment on something forwarded to me on something taken from twitter. I think my comment without looking back was "jokes are running wild now, how is he meant to shake this stigma off" or something along those lines. If Durham Police tried to charge me for that, they'd get laughed at.
As I say whilst I appreciate you are not trying to scaremonger and simply acting on something you've read, I think you'd have to think about the wider implication of what you are saying. It is not realistic for Durham Police to sanction everyone who has made a joke, re-tweeted etc. They would meltdown in paperwork. I think if people tweet him, his family or create threads etc which directly assume his guilt by way of comment or joke, then that might be something they could look at. Even then though, they'd be setting themselves a canny task on the latter bit.

A quick gander over on mackem board thread sees two members speculating it is bullshit. One saying the girl should be named and shamed if so. I understand the sentiments but how can it be helpful to the case? They have made fairly luke warm remarks. What about the numbskull out there who sets about naming the girl because he believes its bullshit? The police can threaten action but it won't stop it.
Also this is a 15 yr old girl FFS, why would she be named and shamed? Educated, yes. Subjected to public humiliation and anger, nah not for me. This should all be dealt with, without any comment from the police, club, media. The law is ****e. Nobody is being protected by this ridiculous process.

If the girl states that it wasn't rape, then that's good enough for me. I'm not saying it's right, and we need age of consent laws, so he should be punished, but it's not a big deal, in my opinion. He should get a minimal sentence and warning, but if he offends again then that's a harsher sentence.

Somewhat contradictory comment.
How can you agree that there is a need for "age of consent laws" (which we have) and then in the same breath say if the girl consents then that's good enough for you?
The age of consent law is there and from what I have read she is under it and therefore cannot give consent and it therefore cannot be okay.
What I meant was it's good enough for me so he can avoid serious punishment like the 7 years that's been suggested. He should still be punished, I stated that in my comment.
It's good enough for me not to consider him a bad person for it. A stupid decisio.
You don't the facts, even the people preparing the files for the Crown Prosecution and the Police don't. All they have is DNA, statements from Johnson, the girl and any witnesses. Personally would be surprised if he's done it or was found guilty. If he has done it then is an absolute prick and will have spoilt his career.
If it turns out that he's done something then he's prick on two counts. First, for going with someone under 16. Whether she gave consent is irrelevant. In the eyes of the law she's a minor. Whether or not the age of consent should be changed is a question that has wider implications. Under the law though he's committed an offence. Secondly, he's got a GF and has a new born baby. If she had any sense she would tell him to piss off.
Of course, at the moment the above doesn't apply since the full facts aren't known.
I doubt that he would be arrested unless there was irrefutable evidence. Secondly, the GF won't leave. He's her source of money.
