Nelson Mandela was an activist though. I have already said I think this is just a positive contribution. Mandela aimed far higher.

The rainbow flag has been around for a long time, since the late 70s. The original LGBT Pride Flag. It is quite an interesting story to read. It is now seen as a global symbol of support. I think its meaning is well understood in football circles too, where we have adopted it in various guises over the last decade or so. Most notably the rainbow laces campaign. The armbands arent new either, they have been around a while, so I am surprised people are unsure what they mean to be honest...

What do they mean, I'm really not sure.

These armbands aren't LGBTQ+ as far as I know.

Wearing the armband is a statement of principle ...

... going to the country you're 'protesting about', for your own benefit, shows your own wishes are actually more important.

If I wave a Ukrainian flag 'on principle', then accept a free holiday from Putin I'm a hypocrite.

Some England fans are actually being paid to go to Qatar and sing to order, it's shameful.
I’ve been to protests about this country and have then went back to my home within the same country does that make me a hypocrite?

No one is telling me that any of the virtue signalling gestures mean anything or will achieve anything.

Apart that is, from the salving of conscience all round. The casual approach to countless deaths by Qatar has been known for ten years. It has become worse and more obvious as time has passed. Unequivocal proof has been shown more than once.

Countries, players and EUEFA have had years to actually do something, rather than wiait until now and indulge in hollow gestures. At the least all countries should be sending, ( if they feel their contracts are too onerous to escape) a team of lower league players and amateurs.

Holding the World Cup in such an appalling place is an unforgivable disgrace, a permanent and ineradicable stain on FIFA, EUEFA and the useless national organisations, whose well paid, pole climbing officials busily enrich themselves while overseeing the slow death of the game

Together, they have stolen a World Cup from us, all for even more dark and hidden money, flowing into accounts never dreamed of and in numbers never dreamed of. They have probably stolen football itself too, as we will all see soon when the recently rejected Super League bursts back to life, and is suddenly deemed to be just what we all needed.

Keep it for me.

Great point, wish the European teams had agreed to this stand.

The sooner this World Cup is over and the big six piss off out of our lives the better.

To be fair there was a tiny sticker of a white male on the side of England plane ...

... striking a significant blow for sexual, race and religious equality and showing the courage of your convictions.

Proud of Gareth and the lads :emoticon-0103-cool:

Pretend fans at the pretend World Cup <doh>

These tossers obviously think they can fool everyone as if we're all as gullible as Newcastle supporters ...

... and this is just the start.

The mask won't just slip, it'll fall to the ground.

These people are so used to everyone living in fear of them they won't be able to handle people strolling around doing whatever they like. The Foreign Office guidelines are just that, an idea of the local laws and customs.

Like England's ancient byelaws there'll be the Qatari equivalent of not grazing an oxen on the village green on St Swithins Day ...

.... like filming something everyone can see with their own eyes <doh>

Well, seems all the outrage form the media surrounding the World Cup has vanished, and now the likes of Sky Sports and talksport presenters heading over there sipping champagne ****ing over the fantastic set up paid for with people's lives. Jim White and Co over there now. They no longer have any right to preach about right and wrong with on their ****ty shows arguing water isn't wet and the sky isn't blue debates.
