Interesting article about the altitude affects on the turbos and cooling.

Interestingly the 2nd fastest track behind Monza so engines should be under some decent load.

Excellent work Mr smithers I forgot this was back to back.

I've added a poll. I presume di Fredsta is still leading the league.

Thanks Smithers. I was planning on doing it today, does anybody want to tot up the scores from USA. Just add 1 to people who voted Hamilton.

Second fastest track but surely the lack of turbo will cancel it out at that altitude?

Could have some engine failures, according to the article they will have to spin the turbo up from 100,000 rpm to the maximum 125,000 - which I'm assuming is quali spec?

You might well be right re engine well turbo failures. While the FIA dictated a max of 125,000 rpm I think most teams designed to 100,000rpm for normal operation and 125,000rpm for, as you say quali. If I remember correctly back in 2013 when the engines were in development Mexico with it's altitude was not on the cards.
The altitude will also cause cooling issues, i.e. the thinner air won't have the same cooling effects.
So faster turbos and a decrease in cooling capabilities in going to be interesting. My bet is Renault engines and Honda will suffer more than Merc or Ferrari but be interesting to see what happens.

Head says easy Lewis win, but my heart is saying that Lewis will not be as focused as he would be normally and Vettel can sneak a win.

I'll be happy if we have a real race, like the one last weekend, it was certainly good to remember that they can race each other when circumstances allow, lets hope that a unknown tract is one of these circumstances.

Lewis has said that the Mercedes shouldn't lose any turbo performance, so expect some phenomenal speeds.

The track layout has Williams written all over it.

Not many corners to slow them down- I expect a very strong weekend from them.

Drag and downforce will be reduced at higher altitude too. It's going to affect so many variables, could lead to a surprise result, they should have a few more races at high altitude.

So how many football pitches can you fit inside the Autodromo Hermenas Rodriguez? I looked at Google maps and it looks like 24. And surrounded by a further 17....
