With all the excitement about De Ridder, the speculation about Chamberlain and the controversy surrounding Puncheon, it seems that Southampton wingers are very much on everyone's mind at the moment.

Because of that, I have put together this poll just to see who everyones favourite winger is in recent years.

Lallana without any doubt. I really liked Skacel (ooh controversial) and everyone loved Marsden, but it has to be Lallana.

I voted Chamberlain as I think he is a more natural winger than Lallana - Lallana is our best player IMO but think his best position would be in a more central attacking role.

Sorry, Terry Paine gets it for me, as good as all the others are.

Speedy John Sydenham from the same era should also be on the list.

If it was an all time poll and those two were excluded from the list it'd be outrageous, good thing it's recent years.

Terry Paine's era is recent for some of us!

Point taken, Lallana then, even though I agree he should play more in the middle.

I think you've reached the limit of your knowledge there matey. Case & Armstrong were not wingers.

Are you joking? Case was a winger, probably more so at Liverpool than Saints, but he was a winger none the less. Armstrong was a left winger, he even wore the traditional number 11 shirt!

St Godders

...... oh sorry, I thought it said "Whingers"

in that case I'll say Chicken George Lawrence. Please note, this is favourite, not best. Chicken George simply was hilarious.

Case only ever played central midfield for Saints. I saw pretty much every single game he played for us, home and away.

Armstrong tended to play most of the time behind the front two. Yes, sometimes wide left, but floated around in his busy fashion.

I remember John Motson once describing Saints formation on match of the day as "Moran & Worthington up front, Wallace on the wing and Armstrong absolutely everywhere!" (as in, praise of how much pitch he covered)
