Mara is most definitely a selfish central striker. He is always looking to shoot as soon as he gets the ball. Not necessarily a bad thing but I would say that he is very much going to be a confidence player because of his tendency to shoot from any and everywhere. You don’t get confidence by coming on for 10/15 mins at the end of games where we are holding on, or being played out on the wing Similar to Sulemana there’s definitely some talent there (nowhere near as much as Sulemana mind) but the only way to achieve that is to stick by them and play them all the time. I don’t think either will realise their potential at Saints tbh
Mara could have really done with a loan somewhere he was playing every week. But then we couldn't do that, because we didn't sign a striker with two legs.
Saints have been a basket case of a team for years, and are now a team changing to a different scheme, with new manager and players. The experienced players have struggled to play to their potential, so young in experienced players will be struggling even more. I criticise all the players at times but when I calm down I know that none of them go out on the pitch to want to play below par. The 25 run undefeated papered over a lot of cracks.
I thought that Aribo and Stephens were, by some distance, our best two players. (Smallbone also had one of his better games.) Who would have guessed that the best position to play a CB is...at CB.
