I'm not sure about Ramsdale. The word seems to be that Newcastle won't be buying him so there's a chance we keep him if we go up. I'm pretty sure that's the only possible way we don't try to sign Peretz permanently. Even if we do go up there's still an argument for selling Ramsdale for £20m, signing Peretz for £7m and using the extra transfer money and wages elsewhere.

100%. Whilst Ramsdale made some saves which kept scorelines down, I don’t recall his saves winning games as Peretz has in the last 2 games. Combine that with the fact that it appears Peretz actually wants to be here....

Peretz > Ramsdale

Whats the quote about falling in love with a loan player :emoticon-0120-doh:

TBF to Ramsdale, he did exactly that in the one of the very few games we did win last season - Everton at home.

I think he had a good game when we beat Ipswich as well. I'm also not sure it's totally fair to suggest he doesn't want to be here. He's on a huge wage that we really can't afford in this division anyway. Replacing him with Peretz plus £13m and some spare wages might still be the right call.

Yeah and not really his fault we weren’t winning games anyway with the rest of the team we had

Ramsdale is a decent/good PL keeper, Peretz might be that/maybe better. But if we do go up then he’ll be a lot busier than Peretz has been in the Championship.

Completely agree that if we can make around £10m from essentially swapping them then it’s worth it, if nothing more than if we do go up it will add funds to replacing the other 8 players in the side we would need to to have a chance

Yep, my worry. TSP spoke about this a week or so ago. With Toby, it wasn’t really confirmed whether we had a water tight option to buy or he just said, “I’m not playing for you”& wanted Spurs when they came in. I hope we don’t fall down here.

If there’s a mandatory buy clause my understanding is the fee/contract terms are confirmed when the loan is done. These sort of deals get done as a way of pushing money spend into the future if the buying club doesn’t have the cash/wants it in next seasons figures.

Optional buy clauses (like the ones we had with Alderweireld, Larin and Peretz) a fee is agreed at the time of the loan that the selling club has to accept, but the player can tell us to piss off if they want in the summer. So in Peretz’s case it will probably happen if there is bigger club interest in him, like there was with Alderweireld. That was all blown out of proportion at the time, he simply chose Spurs over us. Atletico could accept as many offers as they wanted as well as ours and it was his decision where he went.

Pretty much this although Atletico did have to pay us a penalty of £1.5m for going back on the buy deal that was included (which was a no-brainer for them because they made way more than that in the higher offer coming from Spurs)

Imagine it’s as simple as go up and he stays, don’t and he doesn’t. Which ironically is the way round we don’t really need it with the Ramsdale situation
Clearly, I think the best situation is we go up, sign Peretz for 7mill and sell Ramsdale for 20million, which will provide funds to use on other positions.

Well yeah of course that’s the best outcome. It’s just ironic that if we do go up we won’t necessarily need Peretz as Ramsdale might be open to staying.

If we don’t go up we can’t keep Ramsdale due to salary and I think it unlikely Peretz signs permanently as well, meaning we are down to just having Bazunu as a keeper option as Long, McCarthy and Jones will all be gone as well, so will need to find at least one other.

Basically the keeper situation goes from “yeah we’re sorted there” to “we’re completely ****ed” based on whether we get promoted which isn’t a great situation to be in
