Seems clear enough.

"Mr Rees-Mogg said he was “shocked” to learn of the group’s views and insisted he had never been a supporter or member.

“It’s undoubtedly embarrassing. I feel very silly. This was clearly a mistake,” he said. “I try to accept invitations from most people who ask me to speak. I could limit myself to just speaking to Conservative Associations, which would be safe but politics, is about speaking to a variety of views. But I wouldn’t want to be caught out in this way again.”
You seem to have missed the bits where he was informed about them before he attended.
Searchlight told him and he asked the Tories for confirmation. That wasn't enough, apparently.
Total moron it is, then?

What happened to Hitchens telling people to kill Muslims, by the way? Any confirmation of that?

I'm not surprised that's what you saw.
It's the same line that UKIP and Trump have been using. Everyone's out to get you.
He makes baseless claims, gets called on it and then disagrees, despite being wrong.

And what's the first paper that comes up if you Google the names of those involved? The Express.
Trying to get as wide a view as possible? Give me a break.
You're repeating the same mantras that a very narrow group of sources are throwing out.

I don't feel everyone's out to get me, and I don't get the impression Rees-Mogg does either.

I was more interested in the comments spoken rather than hunting round at other things they and others have said that I may or may not agree with. They're not particularly the issue.

I agree. He was talking bollocks in the interview, just as he does in every other interview.
Just because somebody's well spoken, that doesn't mean that they actually know anything.

Do you back his racist associations and homophobic politics though, just out of interest?
You do seem to have picked two rather dubious examples here if you don't.

I didn't miss that. It's partly what he's referring to in the quote that I feel answers your earlier question about his views where he himself says he was silly. I have no real idea what that has to do with the comments on the videos linked though.

Hitchens? I thought you'd said you didn't agree with his politics anyway, so I've not bothered to dig it out.

Which racist and homophobic associations? You linked one article where he's very clearly saying he's not associated with them.

So you agree that he's a total moron and he attended a racist rally, despite knowing what it was?
Does this display horrible judgement or do you think he actually agrees with them, despite his denials?

I don't agree with Hitchens politically, but I haven't seen him say anything this obviously dodgy.
I can't seem to find a reliable source for the claims though, so I wondered if you had one.

He's opposed to marriage equality and claimed that David Cameron was rubbing in gay marriage, whatever that means.
His attempts to disassociate himself from a racist group appear to have been made after he was caught.
They're not very convincing to me, I'm afraid.

It's a massive leap to say someone that admits to making a silly judgement call then becomes a 'total moron' or a racist. He's far from either.

How is it a silly judgement call? He was told who and what they were, but he attended anyway.
You're simply trying to wave it off because he's said some things that you agree with.
The other politician that you quoted is the leader of the French National Front, so you're 2 for 2 on bigots. <ok>

So you can imagine an MP making a 'silly judgement call' which results in him attending a far right meeting by accident. Personally I thing its a close call between him being a liar and a moron an a liar and a racist. My best guess based on his other contributions to debate is a liar, a moron and a racist.

And you're trying to use something he himself said was silly to label him as associated with racist groups. It has nothing to do with the video linked.

Le Penn is what she is, and has many supporters in France. To lazily try to dismiss the comments on the video (assuming you watched it) because of who made them is ignorant and foolish.

Any comments on the video?

I'm using him associating with a racist group to associate him with a racist group. There are no additional steps needed.
It's not silly. Stop using that word to try and ignore what he did.
He was told about who and what they are and went anyway. That's not silly.

She's a popular racist, so she's alright? Not for me, I'm afraid.
She didn't say anything new. It's the same nonsense that UKIP came out with and Trump's spouting now.
What points do you think that she made well?

I use the term "silly" as he did, and it's far more apt then your polemic.

Which bits of LePenn's words on the video do you disagree with?

He was told that they were a racist bunch of extremists and he attended anyway, after checking with Tory central.
How is that silly? It's either monumentally stupid or he didn't care.

Have you even watched the video or did you just see it elsewhere and post it on here?

You can keep asking the same questions, it will only get the same replies.

I take his admission of being silly as enough.

I'm interested in others views on LePenns words, but yes, I've watched it.

So you'll accept any old nonsense from Rees-Mogg and haven't watched the LePenn video at all, then?
Was it too French for you?
