I don't have time to give a full answer. I'm a hypocrite really as my daughter has just finished Polo and I need to drive her home

He wasn't opposing H&S legislation per se, it was elements of it that his constituents felt had a negative affect on them and the way that it was forced through against the wishes of UK Parliament.

He advocates the hard brexit stance, he wants us to leave the single market, that makes him a complete buffoon imo.

He's a man born into money, he's got no vested stake in the economic fall out of such folly, as it won't affect his lifestyle one iota.

    He's a reckless right winger

He has a slightly different slant on the single market to the one suggested on here.

He's elaborated more on other talks, but touches on it from about 5 minutes onwards.

Whose bottom will you be winning the race to today Kustard? Normally you are wedged so far up Pete's that all we can see is your feet.

So a bloke that would vote for Trump and a racist are offering their views and we should listen to them because...?
Rees-Mogg is opposed to gay marriage and tried to give Somerset it's own time zone, 15 minutes apart from the rest of the country.
He's a complete pillock and he's living in the past.

I saw that at the time and he was talking absolute bollocks

Losing access to the single market and ending up with tariffs on 44% of our exports, putting up barriers for our financial sector and risking foreign owned UK based manufacturers ****ing off as a result, is completely reckless. He tries to dress it up as a restriction to trade, when it's the complete converse.

So we should dismiss the considered views of the pro EU Christopher Hitchins on Europe, because in other debates he advises people to kill radical muslims?

He (and others) mention that opinion in conjunction with other elements of the issue, not in isolation.

He says we should leave the single market, not a mention of trying to retain our status within it.

He also incorrectly stated that we'd not be able to negotiate trade agreements with other countries if we chose to remain part of it.

When did he say that and in what context?

He's rather dead anyway, so his opinions on the current situation are quite irrelevant.
What are his views of Brexit? No idea. He died before it came up.
I disagree with most of his political views, anyway.

You failed to answer my question, anyway. Why should we listen to those two people?
Rees-Mogg is utterly unfamiliar with the real world. Why is he right about this subject?
He appeared to be miles out of his depth against Ken Clarke.

As I heard it, he says we can't retain status within the single market as it is now because we're not able to link to anything run by the EU, but feels we can still trade on similar lines, albeit under new contracts, as we already meet their requirements.

His mention of other deals seems to be related to the joint EU deals, where there are possible dis-benefits to the UK from a joint deal over an individual one.

I never said you did have to listen to them, it's a free country, personally I just try to get as wide a view as possible.

I saw that as Clark floundering despite him having the support of the BBC presenter.

I'm not surprised that's what you saw.
It's the same line that UKIP and Trump have been using. Everyone's out to get you.
He makes baseless claims, gets called on it and then disagrees, despite being wrong.

And what's the first paper that comes up if you Google the names of those involved? The Express.
Trying to get as wide a view as possible? Give me a break.
You're repeating the same mantras that a very narrow group of sources are throwing out.

    Seems clear enough.

"Mr Rees-Mogg said he was “shocked” to learn of the group’s views and insisted he had never been a supporter or member.

“It’s undoubtedly embarrassing. I feel very silly. This was clearly a mistake,” he said. “I try to accept invitations from most people who ask me to speak. I could limit myself to just speaking to Conservative Associations, which would be safe but politics, is about speaking to a variety of views. But I wouldn’t want to be caught out in this way again.”
