Just got in after a day of no wifi/mobile signal. Good work Saints :1980_boogie_down:

Austin needs to start

Been saying that for ages. Unless Austin isn't fit then why is he not starting.

Fergie would be asking if Long had got married to Mrs Offisde i.e. Shane Long-Offside from the first few games. I remember that Inzaghi comment he made years back.

Cedric actually looked like he could defend (sometimes).

And yet with 5 games still hasn't played in any of them as well as Cuco did in his one game. Maybe we earn more in sponsorhip and advertising revenue from playing a Euro winning right back?

A win's a win I suppose but not exactly a classic. I don't think it's the system as such but rather that the obsession with keeping possession can make things very slow. So a decent defence can keep us at bay quite easily.

It only takes one poor touch to then lose possession with most of the team out of position against a quick counter attack. Not a problem today but Swansea weren't very good (apart from Cork of course!).

One of my guys is an A**enal supporter. He says the conversations we're having about Redmond sound very much like the ones they had about Thierry Henry before he learned to score.

On Solent, Puel said something like "Nathan's putting those all away on the training ground".

I suspect he's just trying too hard and that if he can learn to relax he'll be dangerous.

Vin

It's possible he just needs to relax.

But I think also, we knew he wasn't the finished article when we got him.

I just look at it like, what would have been different if Redmond had been on the wing? He got the assist on a cross to Austin, and had a couple more good crosses where we could have scored. He cut inside (quite brilliantly) and then blew the sitter. He blazed a few speculative shots well over the bar.

That's pretty much what I've seen from him in the past. He did a lot of things right, but ultimately, his game still needs a bit of polish if he wants to step up to the next level. Which really, is not surprising given his age. He has time.

He showed a lot of promise today, and I think if you view it through the lens of "this is a young player with flaws" instead of focusing on the position he is playing, it was an extremely positive performance from him.

Have we popularised the word INDEED.? I know quite a few of us use it here, and I use it in conversation. I'm listening to Ryan Bertrand agreeing with Adam Blackmore making a point, and he said the magic word. Helped to make his interview sound rather different from the usual footballer predictable stuff.

It's our version of Liverpool's "Exactly, like, ya know what I mean eh, eh........like"

I thought Cedric was quite good today. I've got no complaints.

Cuco did a decent enough job as a sub. Seems like that could be a good role for him. Add some width defending off the bench as a faux-winger.

As long as we are playing two games a week, I'm good with both of them playing alternating games. See how things stand in a couple of months.

Thought we played really well today ... Claude gets a lot of credit from me for how he's handled the squad rotation. Can't argue with it!

Shame my matchday experience was ruined by the moany twats sat around me (i was away from my usual seat) who hated everyone and anything about Saints. Loved Jack Cork (LFF was that you!?), and thought Les Reed was an utter prick to replace him with Clasie, who this guy despised.

My favourite though, was Liebherr needs to go <doh>

It was a booking. He was diving before the player even reached him. HE was caught after he had already started simulating.
So are you saying he should have carried on with his stride and trod on the defender? If that was outside of the pen area a foul would have been given.

Cuco as faux-winger <laugh> ... I like that!

Seeing as FLT has been gagged I'll say it for him.

It would not be hard for Austin's hold up play to better than Pelle's because Pelle rarely held the ball up instead flicking, backheeling or chesting the ball off. Yes he was supreme with the chesting passes but he rarely held the ball up. It was always more a mixture of "hot potato" or try to do the most Italian assist ever.

He did tread on the defender. He was in full dive mode before the player had reached him and if you watch the replay tonight from behind him you will see the soles of both of his boots before any chance of contact. Not jumping, the swallow was already in flight. Then because he had done it too early he had to put a foot down and trod on the defender's leg.

It was a dive and a badly timed one to boot.

Never a penalty - Long was looking for it and adjusted his stride pattern and was dipping down as he 'connected' with his left boot on the player - thoroughly deserved the booking.

Successive league games now where I've given Romeu my MOTM.

Much better again today - for the third game in a row - although Swansea, like Sparta, were very poor*. Finishing is of course still a big concern, not all sides will give up that many chances to us. But we put in a performance and we won the game.

*(It's why, even given a poor start, and a weaker looking squad on paper, we are never going to be in relegation trouble this year. There are simply too many sides who are weaker than us).
