Good to get a win on the board. Still need to do a better job in attack, though...Swansea was miserably poor, and this really should not close enough for them to threaten for anything.

With the Europa League we are going to have to rotate, but at least we got the job done and the important win that we needed.

Glad we altered the formation in the second half.

Thank god for that! Good win, clean sheet, out the bottom three. We made hard work of it and Redmond most definitely is not a striker. Taking on the fullbacks and fizzing balls in is what I'd prefer to see him doing. Based on todays starting line up, I still can't see who would be taken out in place for Boufal, but that's a problem for another day. I do think we'll need to dip in the market for another striker come January.

Redmond flatters to deceive; lots of hustle and bustle but makes poor decisions and although he can take players on he cannot retain possession when needed. CP needs to do a lot of work with him; has a lot of potential.

I thought Redmond had a solid game. He did a lot more on defense than I expected. He was arguably even more active with and without the ball than Long and Davis, which is saying something.

He should have an assist on that Austin shot.

Another excellent game from Romeu.

We're going to beat someone by a few goals pretty soon. It's slowly beginning to come together, though we look so much more potent in a finishing sense with Charlie up top. But then we lose a little of our threat from pace.
Pace is great if it leads to goals, but frantic dashing about is wasted without the end product. Saint Matthew of this parish didn't need pace, just ability.

Oh I agree. But Saint Matthew's come around once in a generation. If that. Charlie is no MLT.

I prefer to swap one speedster for a finisher. Absolutely.

He also had an assist for the "offside" goal. Another day, he would have scored and nabbed a couple of assists and we would all be raving about him. I thought he caused Swansea many issues, more so than any other of our players. He just lacked a bit composure, luck and a bit on the decision making front of things.

Have we popularised the word INDEED.? I know quite a few of us use it here, and I use it in conversation. I'm listening to Ryan Bertrand agreeing with Adam Blackmore making a point, and he said the magic word. Helped to make his interview sound rather different from the usual footballer predictable stuff.

Austin
Tadic Davis Redmond

It's not hard, is it?

I think we need Austin as a striker. But Austin + Redmond (or Long) is fine.

The diamond hasn't been a problem for several games, really. And it definitely wasn't a problem today. Don't think harping on the 4-2-3-1 solves anything. Would Redmond somehow not have missed that gimme simply because he was a winger? Would Long have not taken 5 seconds with the ball and then just poked it at the goal?

Austin, Tadic, Davis, and Redmond all played today and they all had fairly decent games bar the finishing which was not a product of the formation.
