Meh. He's had two chances inside the box that he's blazed miles over, one of which he should possibly have crossed to Long and I can remember a few other times he's made poor decisions - taking on an extra player, shooting from miles out when he should have passed. Fair point on the pass though. He just doesn't seem to be "right" somehow. I think he'd probably play better if he was used out wide so I wonder if he's too keen to score goals and justify playing as a striker?

I agree with a lot of that to be fair. Like I said hasn't been great but played his part. Was poor to be offside just then.

Think you may have a point on your final part.

Happily, from what I can make out as I'm listening on Solent, Jose has had a better game today. I think the Euros took a lot out of him, having relatively little rest and no preseason to speak of.

FT: Saints win.

A clean sheet? Holy mother of god we've kept a clean sheet!!

2 home wins in a few days, just what the doctor ordered!

Austin to start at the taxpayers stadium next week please!!

Another excellent game from Romeu.

We're going to beat someone by a few goals pretty soon. It's slowly beginning to come together, though we look so much more potent in a finishing sense with Charlie up top. But then we lose a little of our threat from pace.

Not a bad week, really.

Lose 2-1 away to Arsenal in the last minute due to a penalty.
Win the opening Europa League game 3-0 with a rotated squad.
Beat Swansea and keep a clean sheet in the process.

<ok>

Thoughts:

We won!!

We kept a clean sheet!!

Austin needs to start

Clasie was brilliant

Redmond isn't a striker

We play too conservative, but that may be due to lack of wins. Hopefully this will now change.

Cedric actually looked like he could defend (sometimes).

Hopefully it takes some pressure off Puel and the players. It wasn't a brilliant game and we and Swansea both look average.

Seat of our pants, but we had about a day to prepare, so the old finishing/formation debates can wait until tomorrow.

Redmond flatters to deceive; lots of hustle and bustle but makes poor decisions and although he can take players on he cannot retain possession when needed. CP needs to do a lot of work with him; has a lot of potential.
