Any one else feel a bit sick that the Prem has spent over £1.1billion?

Yup, my wife when she saw the Pogba transfer fee nearly starting crying and she was really upset. She was thinking about the NHS, people around the world living in abject misery and poverty and then there are other people willing to pay money like that for a 'person to play a game'.

Also just for those who were kind enough to wish her and me well as a quick update I am happy to report she is currently recovering well in hospital after having one of her kidney's removed [and also it appears her histology report on another 'anomaly' removed at the same time is going to be good news according to the surgeon, just from a visual check of it].

Yeah, okay, it is fans justifying the lack of spending by saying we have slent on contracts.

I find huge similarities between now and the Lowe era. Strachan got us to a record position and asked for funds to buy some player he'd seen for £1m called Drogba and was told we had a good enough squad and we should make use of the academy. Strachan got sick of it and left. Sound familiar?

Apparently since then we fans have rewritten the past and it was excessive spending which got us in financial trouble - when in fact it was lack of spending in the Premier League, followed by failure to rise back up, which destroyed us.

I didn't know that about Strachan. However, I'm not convinced that the current board has the same motivation/rational. For now, I'm still going to keep faith in the model that has served us well. Don't get me wrong, I'd like a bit more excitement on transfer day, and the idea of signing Bony would of been exciting!

I thought Wee Gordon left because of the behaviour ( drugs maybe ) of a certain senior player .

The then chairman backed the player over GS , GS said I am off .

Allegedly .

The money in PL Football is insane , and disgusting IMHO .

The money is what it is, the product of an environment in which the game is incredibly lucrative grounds for broadcasters and sponsors. It's not insane relative to the rest of the sports world; compared to the major North American leagues it's still pennies, with the difference being that players are brought in via fees rather than trade. Football is merely beginning to catch up.

With a weaker squad then we ended last season are we interested at all in the Europa league ? I suspect not despite the club rhetoric. Maybe the money isn't in it to really bother with.

Why the facepalm? You happy with the window?
God knows why he's face palming?? I think it's been a poor window or maybe I'm missing something?

But to me our 1st eleven is weaker, can't believe we haven't gone in for a centre forward.
Take Romeu out of midfield aka Man U and our midget midfield is not physical or powerful enough.
Back four....no dependable cover for our CB's and obviously injury to Pied has left us weak at RB.

I think the club is interested in doing well in the Europa. They will want to keep KL happy...and she won't be impressed if we do embarrassingly. We may or may not do well, but it won't have anything to do with intention.

You could say that about almost any team outside of the top 6 in the PL and they would have their problems.

My fear is that the lack of spending, coupled with the silly formation will breed a lot of impatience in the fan base at any poor results. I really hope and believe we will start winning soon, and get some positive vibes back around. Otherwise, the doom-merchants will be out in full force. :(

Only way to avoid doom merchants is to keep off social media...though you can't avoid the fans sitting near you at the ground.
