He has so I hope Phelan gets the job or Martinez gets his demands met. Been around a long time shadowed the second greatest ever manager to walk the planet and by all accounts was pretty much in full control at Manchester in his later years there.

Coleman, Zola and whoever else are just very meh.

I wouldn't mind being second best if they were offering me £1m a year.

That appears likely. The bloke who told me that he had met with Hull twice last week (which appears to have been correct) told me when I saw him on Saturday that he was still going to take it, but the fact that you've seemingly moved on with the search since, would suggest that something went pear. It'll be interesting to hear what that was tbh. His claim against Everton is still ongoing, so maybe that had something to do with it???

Hull close to appointing Gianfranco Zola as new manager

Hull City are close to naming Gianfranco Zola as their new manager, sources close to the Italian have told ESPN FC.

Zola, 50, has been out of work since leaving Qatari side Al-Arabi earlier this year but is now being considered for a return to the Premier League after the FA of Wales rejected an approach from Hull to talk to Chris Coleman.

The Chelsea legend has had two previous managerial spells in English football, leading West Ham to ninth and 17th in the Premier League and Watford to third in the Championship.

Hull are now expected to hold further talks with Zola and hope to conclude a deal for the Italian by the end of Wednesday as they prepare to start the new season against reigning champions Leicester City on Aug. 13.

Roberto Martinez, Mike Phelan and Ryan Giggs have also been linked with the job since Steve Bruce's resignation on July 22.

I know Leicester fans groaned when Ranieri was appointed but at least he had a half decent track record.

If in the space of 72 hours Zola was announced and 3 signings were also brought in, then suddenly things start to look different. Not holding out hope though.

If Zola does arrive (big if) he will still be the best player on the training pitch by a country mile...Shame he can't be cryogenically remoulded 15 years..Zola, Abel, Dio leading the line..Decent threesome

    COLEMAN LATEST

Sky sources: Chris Coleman remains interested in talking to Hull about their managerial vacancy.

We reported on Tuesday that the Football Association of Wales had rejected an approach from the Tigers to speak to the man who guided his country to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

I know he'll see an immediate increase in wages and his stock's high but if he holds on and does well at the WC, he could get a bigger move!

A long time to wait, it could equally go horribly wrong and he'd be lucky to get a job in the Championship. Strike whilst the iron is hot Chris!
