Martinez managed almost 3 times as many games for a win percentage only 4% less. For someone who took them progressively backwards he must have won the league in his first season!
I dont know what this means. He did take them backwards, they finished lower under him every season. I'll re-post this in case you missed my edit: Let’s get a few stats out of the way nice and early. Martinez has a win percentage of just 26.77% at Wigan, winning only 34 of his 127 games in charge and losing 57. In his three seasons at the club, they have finished 16th, 16th and 15th finishing with 36, 42 and 43 points respectively. It’s often made out that Martinez has done a great job of keeping the club in the Premier League, but the season before he took over, they finished 11th under Steve Bruce and 14th the year before that and the new Hull City boss boasts a significantly better win percentage of of 33.82% over 68 games, winning 23 games – not too far off Martinez’s total in almost half the amount of games. Not sure where you get that stat from, his win percentage is almost 30% with them. That likely includes all games, including Cups, like the one that he won for Wigan. You've quoted the correct Bruce % though, which is odd. One is clearly taking Cups into account but not the other.
Those stats are incorrect. That was my point. I'm well aware you copy pasted it from an article. That article is clearly from before Martinez left Wigan.
Martinez was also the man responsible for setting Swansea up in the way that they play. His win ratio at Swansea was 50%.
I wouldn't be surprised if the new manager was given money to spend. The Allams did this with Barmby. He said he didn't have any, then suddenly there was loads to spend for Bruce. Same for Martinez?
Of the managers available Martinez looks the best to me. He is a Premier League manager unlike Colin, Evans and McLaren and he knows how to put an attacking team together. You could say he lacks defensive nous but this club is already set up well defensively and attack has been our Achilles heel for longer than I want to remember. Also the technical standards he established at Swansea are a great credit to him and our passing game really does need an over-haul.
