Off Topic The Goodhand Arms

Wrong type of victims. If it had been western tourists, there'd have been the same outpourings of support as there was with Paris and Orlando...some people are worth less than others according to the papers.
Sad state of affairs but highlights the western viewpoint that when this happens in the middle East, its normal fir an unsettled region whereas it's a terrorist atrocity when it happens in one of our safe cities

Actually it depends on whether the viewpoint looks out or looks inward. A rag like the Sun will only look outward if it has scandal, boobs or bums attached to it. It doesn't seek to inform, educate or broaden the outlook of the reader. A decent news gatherer, like The Guardian, will give a balanced picture and allow the reader to go where they choose and be informed in every avenue of enquiry. Try this homepage and note the easy access to any news: https://www.theguardian.com/uk

:emoticon-0100-smile I never go to the tabloids for news, I was just commenting on the post. I see all the headlines when I am flitting from site to site but they tend not to colour my opinions. I read international news from many different sources, so generally get a balanced view I think.
The Guardian isn't bad on the whole I agree but all of them have their own editorial focus hence reading the same story from different foreign sources can give some idea of the international picture rsther than UK centric views from our own press.
Each to their own I guess, but because I often work from home, I can browse constantly whilst I'm doing it so have plenty of time to dig as deep as I like into stories.

There's no need to defend yourself. My criticism was of the rag only.

Farage has resigned as leader of UKIP. I mean, every cloud and all that, but what the hell is going on in UK politics?

Oh. I probably should have written this in the politics thread. Sorry. I tend not to venture there!

Often best not too... all calm in there now though :)

My best guess, is that nobody wants to be holding the reigns right now!

There is a gaping chasm of common sense needing to be filled. Frankly, I can't see a single politician from the English parliament with the necessary statesman like qualities to lead the country. None of them really want it now because the task will only take their careers down the toilet.

Nicola Sturgeon seems to have some of the better qualities, but why would she bother.?

Does anyone have David Miliband's number? Asking for a friend....

126 people dead in Baghdad and tomorrow’s front page is a lie about a press officer posting a photo of a personalised head rest cover.

No, seriously.

Appears outrageous....correction...is outrageous, but The Sun is a business, selling papers. They know their readership....the front page grabs them, they flick through the pages, and no article can be long. As you know, people buy the paper that suits them.
