I'm desperately sorry to have to announce that Dave has died. He was 67 years old. I know some of you knew him better than me and will be shocked and deeply saddened at this news. From the few times that we met I can tell you he was a gentle lovely guy who genuinely deserved better than this. I have no details surrounding his death but he was being treated for cancer and we had exchanged messages over the last year. As far as I knew he was responding to treatment albeit very slowly. That is so sad.
I know he was suffering some degree of pain last time I messaged him, but this has come as quite a shock as there was no hint in his messages that he was close to death.

Oh ****ing hell that's awful. Met Dave a few times before a match and he was an absolute gent.

Oh man, that is desperately sad news. We only exchanged messages recently as he was feeling pretty fed up with being in constant pain with his cancer.

One of the gentlest, nicest guys around. A lovely man who will be hugely missed. RIP Dave <rose>

I’ve never met Dave, but the years that I’ve known him on here he’s always come across as a kind, generous and gentle man. Really sad news to hear he’s passed and so young too. RIP Dave. You will be missed.
 
Oh that is awful and so, so sad. I met him a few times - top bloke. Total shock and will be sorely missed. RIP Dave. <rose>

Very sad news. Sounds like he was a very likeable person who made other people feel better for many good reasons. RIP Dave

Another saint gets his halo. Never had the pleasure to meet the man but he's one of us. A fellow saint. Very sad news. Rest in peace Dave, love to the family. I would love to be able to send some red and white flowers on behalf of all of us on this forum if anyone has details nearer the time
