And Koeman managing in the even weaker Dutch league for 3 seasons and getting sacked pretty much everywhere else he went, wasn't?
Hope he proves me as wrong as can be, I just hope his French accent isn't to strong, don't think I could handle hearing that every Saturday !
Agree with Mendy, but reports are he is close to signing for Leicester? Though the pull of Puel could gazump that?
I know we are all happy clappy now, but we definitely do want to do everything on the cheap. if Puel comes he needs to be backed with some big signings.
Koeman only did sustained good work in Holland and got sacked pretty quickly in Spain and Portugal (despite cup wins). Adkins hadn't properly managed outside of Scunthorpe. Pochettino had only ever managed Espanyol. Not really too concerned about Claude's experience being in France. Especially when he's done well with all four clubs. Time will tell.
I don't agree that the Dutch league is weaker to be honest. PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord all competitive at the top. France it's PSG and everyone else. And Koeman had experience of managing in La Liga. Bringing in a manager who has only managed in one weak league is a big big gamble.
The Dutch league is proper **** if you watch it. I was unfortunate enough to catch some of it on SS5 while waiting for MLS games. (yes, MLS is bad too)
Posted it before, but some recommended reading on our new boss in his previous job... http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2016/ogc-nice-the-alternative-football-success-story/
Fair enough, we have always reinvested what we've earned in the transfer market and players are getting new contracts. We're not big spenders, but the club are not being run like cost saving is the be all and end all.
True. But Koeman got sacked in almost every other country he managed in, came here and was a success. You just can't tell.
The law of averages suggests that we're going to fail with a gamble at some point. We should have gone for Pellegrini IMO. And as for doing well at all 4 clubs, he managed Lyon when they were in their prime before PSG became loaded. Not exactly a huge task to do well with them. Nice he had a win rate of 39% over 4 years. Needs to be higher at Saints.
The law of averages would also suggest that Pellegrini is due to carry out a **** job somewhere, if you want to get into law of averages. Law of averages don't really count for as much as some people would like to think.
No, I don't accept that. We cannot continue being a sell-to-buy club. That is not good business and if it was Rupert Low doing it you'd all be up in arms. We are bringing in huge sums of money now, and we need to show we can do more than break even. If not, other clubs simply recognise we buy to sell and keep raiding us every summer. I am sorry but this summer is now a pattern and it will not lead to top half security.
I don't think we would have paid him enough or promised him enough in transfer funds. We rejected him before he could reject us.
I bet a large % of the people moaning about this bloke know bugger all about him in real terms. Me, I know sod all about him. If he comes it's because Les thinks he's the one. Good enough for me. To many experts who look at stats and play football manager.
