Most likely scenario: Ron signs for Everton. Tiny chance he decides not to and looks elsewhere for a job or goes on gardening leave. No chance he will stay here.
Club historian Duncan Holley has waded in... I am pretty sure JS's post is pretty spot on at least as far as the club sees it as a couple of things tally exactly to what I have heard. I would also add I am 99% certain that this post originated directly from the club. With Koeman back tomorrow the release of all this info - which adds up pretty much - is perfect timing. Tomorrow or Tuesday will be interesting!
So you're admitting that the Everton job is so unappealing that only overpaying potential candidates works
I'm sort of with Tobes here, it makes a good story and makes us feel better but something doesn't ring true with me. We wouldn't be showing our "5 year plan" and offering him an extension if the board did not want him. I still believe that the major motivation for Koeman going are the wages and that still makes him a lying, greedy, dishonourable person in my book.
It's not saying we didn't want him. It's saying that we didn't want him as much as he gambled we did. That part rings very true, particularly after the Christmas rumblings (and I'm not talking about Ronald's post-turkey farts).
Tobes, I wouldn't worry, you'll still get your man. Just he's not the golden goose you might have hoped for (as has been said from pretty much day one by myself and quite a few others).
If your first statement is correct and I was an Everton supporter, (thank goodness I am not), I would be a bit concerned that you approached his agent without our permission, it is no different than talking to him personally in my book, don't know the legal side of it perhaps some legal eagle can clarify? We may hear more on this, and even get a bit more pocket money out of it?
Have you read the post? Of course we wanted to keep Koeman, we offered him a new contract. The point of the post is that Saints were not willing to keep Koeman at all costs. That we didn't think of him as highly as he thought we did and he gives the reasons why we didn't up our contract offer. The post comes across as negative as it lists the reasons we didn't think he was worth the pay rise
Ah, the only Saints site I actively avoid. Lurk the UI & reddit, but totally gave up on SaintsWeb. Is it better than it used to be?
Very interesting. Fits well with what I believe happened. Interesting few days to follow. As a side note, very much enjoyed Toms explaination on the everton board, put his point across well & in a respectful manner, then they started their own mini denial panic......very amusing!
If the club is the source (if?), they obviously want Koeman gone. So far they have maintained silence...perhaps hoping to keep him (as said, it would suit us to keep him originally without everything being perfect). This would only be released if they want him gone or (more likely) they know he is going. Personally, I don't think it is a deliberate leak....more a case of you can't keep everyone quiet, especially those tormented by fans rabbitting on without knowing anything. I can accept that Jan doesn't want to go...Saints is a nice place to work and Ronald is the one who gains most...but he will do well by hitching himself to RK's wagon.
It's merely the way it works mate. You don't ask a club for permission to speak to their manager without having already sounded them out. Same goes for players. I don't think speaking to an agent is against the rules lol
If it was club PR it'd have gone via a journalist straight into print, and not via some random on a forum who has no credibility
In theory you have to talk to club first...but, if a little phone call will ascertain if a player/manager is interested, you'd be daft not to. A little nod and a wink and you approach the club. There are rules and what goes on in real life.
