Chambers made it quite clear that he didn't see his future with Saints when he left why would we now go back and give him a springboard to kickstart his Arsenal career ? For me a loan is an absolute No No. If hes offered to us at a cut price and he wants to come back then that is another story.
Did he? I think I remember hearing the club were content to accept a large fee for someone who wasn't first choice in his position. Or am I remembering that wrong?

STATEMENT: Calum Chambers leaves Southampton - http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/28072014-statement-calum-chambers-arsenal-1787887.aspx

Southampton Football Club can confirm that Calum Chambers has completed his move to Arsenal.

The 19 year-old joins the Gunners for an undisclosed fee, having expressed a desire to leave St Mary’s after making 25 appearances for the club.

Executive Director Les Reed commented: “We are naturally disappointed whenever any of our Academy graduates leave the club, and that is very much the case with Calum’s departure.

“Calum made it clear to us that he did not see his future at Southampton. As such, it was crucial that we were able to negotiate a substantial fee that also reflects the work our staff have put into Calum’s development since he joined the club at the age of eight.

“Our position remains unchanged in that we are determined to keep our best young players at the club, as is evidenced by the decision to award Harrison Reed a new long-term contract last week, adding to the list of committed young professionals like James Ward-Prowse, Sam Gallagher, Jack Stephens, Jordan Turnbull, Matt Targett, Sam McQueen and others who have seen plenty of first-team activity recently.

“We have an abundance of talent in the Academy coming through, and everybody at the club is continuing to work hard on bringing in quality new players as we build a team capable of taking us further forward in the coming seasons.

“It is important in the transfer window to remain calm, resilient and above all patient. We have targets, and we are working hard to get them across the line.”

If this was a possibility and he wanted it, Arsenal wanted it and we were happy with the price, I wouldn't want us cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Nope I said at the time I was told he wanted to go and wouldn't take no for a answer ( or something like that) . Reed then said the same in his article.

For me it doesn't really come down to what a 19 year old Chambers thought or said at the time. Whether or not he would improve our team and if we can get him for a good price are the factors that would influence the decision to purchase him.

But there's different costs. He would undoubtedly make our squad better, but would set Cuco (who has vastly improved) back, and then next summer, the Arse get their improved more experienced asset back, probably to sell to West Ham & we are back looking for another space to fill. Again, no thanks. He ditched us against the advice of Ron, so for me this is all hearsay anyway, no truth in it at all. .

I don't think he's on about having him on a loan.

No way would I let him have the wage he is on now though. I would also write into his contract he has to say sorry for being a cock.

I've just thought of this scenario. At least the Saints fan in me has thought of it, and I'm getting it out there before I become reasonable and think better of sharing it. Here goes. Picture the scene. Chambers agent [father] negotiates the lad's way back into the club. One thing he has to say to Les Reed though, is admit that he was a cock and is sorry for it:

Chambers: I'm sorry Mr Reed. I was a cock and I should have seen that you had my best interests at heart.
Les: I'm sorry too, Calum. You let a lot of people down here. People who went that extra yard with you as you were growing. But you didn't care. You didn't see your future at Southampton did you.?
Chambers: No Sir, I didn't and I was wrong.
Les: No, Calum, you were right. Now get the **** out of my office and never come back.
Chambers, startled, but head bowed, opens the door and walks out.
Les: Wait, you sack of ****. Get back in here and sign this contract.
Chambers walks on out of the club.
Les: Ah well, you win some, and then you win some.

Just had to get that out of me. Yeah, let's have him back. Vastly reduced price and wage. No loans.

I think it would be testament to how much we've grown as a club if players like chambers and ox were to come back here. Or maybe a sign that over the past few seasons we have generally got the best out of players? Probably both.

Suggestion that Chambers might be loaned to Saints so that we get an extra player for the season ahead and Arsenal get a more experienced player back after a season with Saints. Sod that for a game of soldiers!! Have no problem with Chambers coming back permanently if Les and Ron thinks it's a good idea, but do favours for a team that we can now seriously regard as a rival. P*** off. (you can tell I feel strongly about this).

Or an experienced manager to replace Wenger next season?
