1588. Did I get it right? It was a sunny afternoon and old Frankie was having a game of bowls on the sea front when Barcelona came to town. We won the European cup that year.

No matter how long you may or may not have spent NOT winning the top division has no bearing on you staying there now. Only Arsenal have a 100% record. It's just that Argyle's history is still to come. Come back in 2052 and say that and we'll discuss it again..

Well I , 4 - 1 will keep this thread rising like a Phoenix from the ashes, rather like Pompey following our list of dubious owners, lack of bite in the leagues fit & proper person tests etc. yes thetre will be Scummers 3 thread and possibly more as the Scummers fall down through the leagues, as surely they will, when sometime soon, Fraulein money bags calls time on her pension fund investment!<whistle>

Hi OddRiverOakWizard - we were lacklustre & lethargic, and generally outplayed by Newport, helped by a very poor referee.

    On to the next game.

Oh dear Greeny, surely Argyle are not going to blow automatic promotion after being the top 3 all season, squeaky bum time for you and Pompey, only one of you can win the play-offs!

It usually starts during the Summer(or should I say Scummer ) of discontent when I really start to miss the weekly disappointment of under performance by the blues on the footy field and look to taking the mick out of the stripey lot down the road. Also the deciding factor is led by the boredom of the beach and the endleass number of BBQ's in the garden........<laugh> <laugh>

I don't do squeaky bum time or any other bottom party tricks. I have lived a lifetime of disappointment that I'm used to it by now and take it all in my stride. We go up we don't go up. In the broad sphere of life it isn't earth shattering. Nobody has a given right to win anything and I've long since accepted that. Not that you would understand that Saints Alive. For your lot it's more about who is bigger or smaller than how the game was played.

I do have a look around the forums and if you take a gander then most of the teams in contention are working out who they will beat and where sufficient points will come from to carry the day. If only it was that easy we'd all be millionaires. Well we wouldn't because the bookies would have gone out of business long ago. They have worked it all out and know exactly what points they will end up with. If you listen to supporters then at least 5 teams will be third at the end. As a bye product of that reasoning, even if that doesn't work they will all go to Wembley anyway and they even know who they will be playing. Having watched my team/club go into meltdown and nearly disappear out of the leagues altogether I just go with the flow these days. There was never going to be some rich big bollox riding to the rescue for us. We are too far South West to be on an Oily Garks radar. So as said, we go up via one of the options or we don't and that really is it for me. I'm just pleased for a team like Leicester giving it up em this season to all you "we are bigger than them" types. My pleasures are simple nowadays.

Maybe the off season should be spent honing up your mathematical skills and not giving grief to Lappers and amusement to the rest of us that would be time well spent not trying another redundant before it starts "going down" thread oh and by the way your day of boredom on the beach is set down for August 15th with a BBQ to follow all other BBQ's will be under shelter<whistle>:emoticon-0103-cool:

The elite in the premiership are well known to one and all but sometimes not themselves - after our game against Liverpool a poster was lamenting the loss and league position and threw in a lovely line "even the likes of Southampton are above us" what a condescending twat God knows how he feels about Leicester and maybe a Premier League title - and if that happens the cheering from the "likes" hopefully will be heard down here:emoticon-0103-cool:

Not going to France for Euro 2016!! I won't blame you if you don't go because I foresee lots of problems between certain groups of supporters for starters. Croatia and Turkey for starters!!

I don't subscribe to this big/small thing in football Ides as I think is obvious from my posts previously. At least with some clubs there is a much bigger history there than for a lot of others so in some ways you can almost forgive their support for still believing they are something there aren't currently. A good few don't live in the here and now. Liverpool being one of them and soon to be followed by Man U if current trends are anything to go by. But, in the grand scale of winning stuff your club hardly has that sort of history to do the bigger than thing. We aren't of course comparing their previous with my club who I have always acknowledged have not set anything alight. I have read posts and comments from your citizens which mirror exactly that said by the Liverpool supporter you quote. The basis for the comment isn't on the same scale of flabberghastedness (a new word there) as the Liverpool chap is it. It always sounds so pretentious when I hear Media people asking the question "Where would he rather be playing next Saturday, at Anfield or Accrington" as if somehow there is something wrong with Accrington as a place to visit. I get the point being made but it could be put a little bit better than that. I think it's really quite amusing to see the media now try to make a fantasy thing out of the Leicester story as if it's a Disney script. I mean it can't happen in real life can it. I so hope it does.

Blimey Greeny, I was only having a bit of fun, like you with the "missing the boat to Europe" stuff.
We Saints fans are pretty grounded really, but are proud of our record as medium sized city punching above our weight, and the stuff we say to Pompey fans has always been mostly good natured banter between local rivals.
I have no axe to grind with Argyle fans and would never pass judgement on their entire fanbase as I have only met a few in my lifetime!

Same as all clubs Saints Alive, at best "some" fans are grounded, My observations have nothing to do with any local rivalry between You and Pompey. I misread this thread a while back and didn't realise then that most of what is said on here is good natured but I do now and have for some time having been pointed in the right direction at that time. There are still one or two that seem to believe it and want to have a pop though but I guess they can't resist a bit of trolling. Would sound better if they understood humour but then that would assume a reasonable brain capacity. Perhaps generalising isn't the best way to judge and like you I have only met a few Southampton fans in my time although nearly all have been a bit OTT with the big little thing which is where I got my opinion from originally. Perhaps I've just met the wrong ones. By the way, I do get the I say /you say exchange thing and I'm not easily offended.

If I wish you well for European qualification this season that won't be misunderstood as me wanting you to have to dodge bombs and bullets will it? I think I'd rather stay home and watch the JPT, it's safer.

Nowt wrong with the JPT. I have enjoyed watching Saints in L1 and also the Championship and EPL. The only thing that I would say is that it's a lot more fun on the way up than the way down! Hopefully Pompey have some upside to enjoy- they are certainly past the worst surely?
