Well it appears that Sven is pulling yet more magic: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7063674,00.html He certainly does put a lot of trust into the players he has worked with...not necesarily a bad thing.
we only need a holding player though... though if we go 4-4-2 at any point a better option than king or danns i think.
How many midfielders does Sven want. We have Danns, King, Wellens, Oakley and Abe. We are meant to be close to signing Gelson Fernandes and Michael Johnson. I think it looks likely Matt Oakley will leave if we sign anyone else. I cant see the owners letting Yuki Abe go and King and Wellens have just signed new deals and Danns is a new signing. Oakley also signed a new deal not long ago We need a striker and hopefully this Maynard thing gets worked out soon
Guess its clear he wants to bring in one more midfielder, would be a decent loan signing. Maynard...hmmm...Maynard...doesn't rign a bell...is this someone we have been linked with? Has there been any threads in relation to it.....?
I like most people think the midfield we have now is fine. I can understand getting Gelson Fernandes for Matt Oakley but I dont really understand the Michael Johnson rumour. We dont need him, he isnt going to score enough goals to get in head of King and Wellens and Danns are proven in this league and they wont want to sit on the bench
Michael Johnson was a class act. if he has really got his fitness back, then he would be an incredible signing. We have 46 Championship games plus cup matches. We need that big squad to see us through the whole of the season, and not fade away at the end cos the players are creamed. Looks like a rotation system could well be in place this season, and it will be quality replacing quality. Now back to the striker .....................
I'm not interested tbh. Like Proud says, I'd take Fernandes because we could use a holding midfielder. But Johnson hasn't played for ages and I'm happy with our midfield in general. I'm all for strength in depth but I don't want Sven to be in a position where he feels he has to rotate the team all the while to keep players happy. We need a consistent starting line-up to be consistent.
Fernandes or Johnson would be good signings, if we are looking for promotion we are going to need a big squad, especially if we have a cup run, sometimes there could be 2-3 games within a very short space of time. Talking of cup runs, do you think we should just bang these on the head this year and aim for promotion?
rotate to keep the players happy ? nope. rotate to keep them fresh. yes we do need consistency in performance - but that is achievable when quality replaces quality
6 Midfielders playing for 3 places is too much. Last season we had 4 and and now we have 5 which I think is the right number, as if we do need a 6th we could always use someone like Peltier, Gallagher, Berner as a makeshift midfielder
That's fair enough if it's the cup games - but why should we go into any league game without our strongest team? Even though we might have quality waiting in the wings, there will always be some players better than others. For example, if we've just played really well and won - why should we change the line-up just because we can? That's not good for consistency.
You cant rotate 6 players for 3 places. That was part of the problem last season. Take the centre halfs, one of the most important positions on the pitch yet we have Hobbs, Morrison, Moreno, Vitor, Davies, Bamba, Bruma, Mee and Tunchev all playing there last season. That is miles too many, take the season we got in the play offs, Jack Hobbs and Wayne Brown played nearly the whole season together and it showed in the clean sheets we was getting
Disagree. If we had Johnson, Fernandes, Wellens, King, Abe and Danns - who would be the strongest 3/4. Difficult aint it. Quality all the way through. I also disagree that it was rotation that caused the problem for the defence last season. It wasnt. We continuously played Bruma who wasnt up to it, had too many loan players so we were forced to switch but keep Bruma and PVA in the side cos of the deal with Chelsea, and way too much inexperience. The quality wasnt there, and there was too much inconsistency. Nothing like the quality in defence last season, that we could possibly have in midfield this season
Ae you lot mad? Johnson would be a quality signing! I agree about the rotation in defense last season and that killed us but it won't be like that this year. We have look solid so far and I don't think, (I used to), we will need a CDM as we have Abe and Wellens. Our midfield last season was stale! In certian games especially after our good run at the turn of the year, King and Wellens and Gally looked shattered and out of ideas. Johnson, Danns and Abe can come in and freshen things up. Oakley I like but it appears more likely that he will not play much footy with us this year and maybe a move is what he deserves? I reckon it will be one of Johnson and Fernandes and I would prefer Johnson.
I would take Fernandes over Johnson for a few reason. Fernandes would be our player, he isnt injury prone plus i cant see how Johnson fits in the team but Fernandes could
I agree but that may have been down to the ****ty off the ball movement of Yakubu and Vassell. So static. I'm not against competition for places at all, quite the opposite, I just don't want to see our team constantly changed for the sake of it, as has been hinted.
