Eh? Never been the case you weren't offside if it deflected off a defender or a keeper saved, as the phase is still active.

If a defender passes the ball to an offside striker, that's when the player isn't offside. Has to be a controlled pass, not a deflection or save.

The problem was Powell kept on dropping into midfield looking for the ball, leaving the largely ineffective and unimpressive Diomande isolated. I fear this is another £1.7m wasted, £1.7m of cash which we may as well have gone and set on fire. He's done nothing so far for me, sometimes after injury you see glimpses of what might come further down the line. All I see for Diomande is more disappointment, there's nothing to suggest he's a footballer.

3m wasted on Diomande and Maloney. Say what you want but it was wasted. And we had to scrounge for cash we got for playing Arsenal in the Cup to afford Powell and Kuciak.

Like me he is understandably frustrated and disappointed in this really inglorious exit where we toiled for over 3 hours and not scored a goal and with the teams chosen could have played for another 3 hours with the same result.
    On now to promotion!

Ps. Both he and myself have said we would take an FA Cup win over promotion as another poster on here keeps pointing out.

Don't think I said anything out of order in here. Certain posters just target and pressure everything I say to the point where I snap back at them. Quill was pretty ridiculous to do it in the heat of defeat when I was pretty bitter and upset, and to top it off with a "Calm down it was just a game" is pathetic.

Keep in mind I got up at 5am to watch the game this morning. I know that doesn't make me entitled to flip my lid more, but it provides some context for why I was so bitter about it.

The night started badly with the introduction of a ****ty untried ticketing system that didn't allow many home printed tickets through the gates - the ticket office, almost unmanned was full of people trying to obtain lost tickets, refunds and a guy on a city land line trying to sort it out - total shambles- the new guy in charge of the SMC should apologise and offer refunds to everyone affected - as always the fans can **** off - most clubs try and work with the fans to enhance the match day experience - City seem to take pleasure in deliberately pissing them off

Brucie ****ed up team selection by giving Meyler the captaincy - he never opened his mouth once - and putting Odubajo on the left - clueless

Meyler was utter garbage and rightly substituted just after half time - he handed over the captaincy to Junior who was also garbage

Having said all that - we didn't deserve to lose 4 0 - at times we more than matched the cheating, diving scum from North London

Generally speaking I too would be a strong advocate of a push in the FA Cup, but we neither have the quality to progress or the club (financial) stability to ignore the riches of promotion and it's ability to release us from the pitiful relationship with the Allams and their lapdogs, Bruce and Phelan. Team selection and tactics were not predictable last night, as no sane football supporter could have second-guessed that lunacy.
The sad thing is that, had we been more pragmatic in the two windows, we would have been scoring more and seeing more from our unsung and seriously mismanaged midfield With better tactics and substitutions, we could have played to our strengths more often, we would have then shown a clean pair of heels in the Championship and would have been in a position to have a serious look at players in their best positions and with the right players around them. What ifs, hey, pipe dreams and unfair criticism some might scream, but, just but, perhaps then we could have fielded a proper FA Cup team against others giving it so-called lip-service - and maybe, if we had, then we might well of been marching on to the next round.

That is what a decent larker will do when they are suffering from tactical ball starvation, a common malady in our games. It is often very difficult to make a constructive assessment of the players because they are not being handled correctly. That is of course with the exception of the GK and defence - strange that, isn't it ?
Bruce (the owners) has frittered these minor millions and balked at investing in game-changers. I think Diomande might improve and even score the odd goal, but he is certainly not what we needed and still do need, even more than ever. Our only hope is to develop Powell as a striker, or even look down the pitch for someone with a bit of brawn, an aptitude for looking (and moving!!!!!) forward and an understanding of how to disrupt a back four - I wonder who that might be?
Aluko should be the final option in all circumstances.

As was pointed out well by Amber Nectar, this notion that promotion would solve our financial woes is naive, as we always end up spending to stay up and banking very little if any.

I agree fully Bo, I'm all for a bit of bantz but it would be a blessing if one of the mods could give a yellow card to posters that continually **** up match day threads with mind numbing childish jibes at each other.

Maybe so, but it will most likely mean we see the back of our despicable owners.

Somehow I can't see AA wanting to sell when that cheque from Sky comes in but we'll see.

    This.

Arsenal looked really edgy at the start and Meyler's gift settled them, it wasn't his first pass to them either, he was absolutely dire last night.

The substitutions were utterly ridiculous, I reckon Brucey just asked the fourth official to pick two numbers at random.

4-0 flattered them, but it was a rather lacklustre affair all round.

What the hell was going on in Hull last night? There wasn't just an issue getting in the ground, it was a nightmare getting in to Hull. It normally takes me about twenty minutes to get to the ground, it took me 45 minutes to get to Pave last night, it's no wonder so many arrived so late.

I'm starting to agree with this. We don't have a natural front two which would work the defence like you need in a 442. We don't have a striker who can play on their own in a 4231 sort of thing and we don't have pacey wingers to play a 433 as some teams do. I've noticed a few PL teams are now playing 343, not sure how that works in terms of having enough defensive cover. 352 suits a lot of our players but would seem to waste the talents of Snodgrass and probably necessitate dropping Clucas which, whatever anyone thinks about him, seems unlikely.

It's that useless **** Bruce we should be getting rid of first. Told this lot over and over again he should of been sacked last season. Let's see if they still lick his arse when this season goes ti ts up as is looking more and more likely now as the goals dry up.

By and large I have to say up to the second goal went in I thought we made a decent fist of it to be honest, Meyler`s mistake put us under the hammer, but we came back at them and prior to the second goal I honestly believed we stood a chance of getting back into it. I thought as a whole the players did `ok`, while none were particularly outstanding, unfortunately as stated by previous posters Diamonde really doesn`t look up to the mark, that may down to injuries and lack of confidence (Abel looked dog shyte when he came too), but I am yet to see anything which convinces me otherwise. Our `goal` could have been given which would have changed the whole aspect of the match, but when you gift a team a goal like we did then it is sure to help their confidence, but despite this we kept plugging away and with a bit of luck Ramsey could have easily turned the header into his own net, again changing the aspect of the game. As it was they were incisive in the last third towards the end, albeit through the help of mistakes and deflections., and the result flattered them, a point eluded to by a number of commentators on the game. We can now get her heads down and concentrate on finishing what we have started, namely getting promoted. The results last night weren`t disastrous for us, and must have given us a lift. Stay positive Tiger nation, now is not the time to implode because we got beat by Arsenal.
