So bring him on as a sub around the 60 minute mark if we're chasing a game or level, and give him a few goes at that, if he starts banging them in, start him in games, if not, I'd still have Clucas ahead.

Clucas will make the starting eleven on Saturday, Akpom won't I suspect. Anyone who would play Clucas (who is building a good and emerging partnership on the left with Robbo) up top over Akpom who's and out and out forward who's just scored a hat trick needs their head examining :emoticon-0100-smile Just an opinion

How many goals does Akpom have in the Championship?

How many goals has Clucas scored as a striker in the Football League?

When picking which of them would be better suited as a striker should Hernandez go down, I would think how prolific they are as a striker in this division would be relevant.

Clucas has never been a striker in this division (other than the last few minutes of games we're seeing out), so it's not really relevant at all, if we need a striker Akpom is obviously going to get the nod over Clucas, particularly following scoring a hat-trick.

Fairly sure he's been shifted up forward in some games this season and scored goals?

If you say so. I'm pretty sure Bruce holds Clucas in higher esteem though. There's been several references to their "I'll score double figures" conversation that make me think Bruce has a lot of confidence in Clucas.

We have goals throughout the team though, we have had 18 different scorers this season, much more than Boro (11), Derby (12) even Burnley (14).

I agree we don't have a second 'proven' goal scorer at this level but you have to remember Abel was unproven at the start of the season and has certainly stood up to the plate.

People don't seem to realise that it's very rare to have two strikers who are proven to score loads at this level. Even Hernandez was unproven until this season. The proven ones cost loads. We couldn't have bought one and left him on the bench. Nor would we want to drop Diame or Hernandez.

City would have sold Hernandez at the first decent offer last summer. Sorry Ehab I don't believe you on that one.

Agreed, but as Syd pointed out, you wouldn't expect him to be honest about that.

Especially since he's a lying twat.

Budgets controlled our position at the end of the day, and with what was available and the fact that Brucey shipped no one out, then Powell at face value has to be a worthwhile punt, particularly as it appears he'll be looking for a new club come the Summer and will most certainly therefore be looking to prove himself over the coming 3-4 months in an attempt to earn a contract. Getting a proven striker in and being able to share his salary with his parent club are easier said then done, that said we decided to not go for one. Maybe Brucey may change his mind and attempt to use the loan window if the worst unfortunately happens and we lose Abel for a few games. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen

The point about clubs being unsettled by incoming signings in January is very relevant when you consider the likes of Derby and Boro. Derby in particular seem to have real issues which I don't think their manager has under control.
Its good to know our players have already gelled so we should be able to push on in the second half of the season.

Worry for me is Aluko, he's been pretty **** for a while, obviously can do a job, but his consistency is a huge question! Is he trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by playing well when he gets the chance or has he got back to the player he can be?
Question to those who've seen him in those games, does he look back to his best?
no doubt about it, aluko looks good on the ball but its rare anything comes from him and its the end product that counts.hes a good squad player but if reports that he's on a decent wedge for championship players are true i cant see him receiving that sort of offer again at city

Bruce said no offers came in for any of our players except the loan requests for Aluko, so holding on to them wasn't a difficult job was it.

Seems reasonable what Ehab has said, and on the whole I think the transfer window went as well as we could expect. Ideally, maybe another striker would have been a bonus, but realistically to get better than we have already got without breaking the bank would have been difficult.

Agree with all of that; however if Abel gets injured then we are dependent upon a young gun in Akpom, an unproven striker in Diomande and a misfiring but technically gifted Aluko, .

The loan window opens up on Monday 8th so this would not be an issue if such a thing happens.

Very true. However Aluko may no be getting the bit between his teeth again as he wants a new contract and PL football once again. Win Win if so.

Makes sense, further additions could have unbalanced the squad and end of the day there is still the loan window opening in a week or so if we have a disaster.

Spot on ^^^^^ this.

After Leeds and Rotherham away I would have had Akpom no where near the starting eleven; his confidence must now be sky high (or should be).

I agree,, however it looks like Akpom has done some shooting practice in training during his lay off. Shame he was not that good @ Leeds & Rotherham mind.

+++++++++++++

As for Ehab's article - wise words for sure. WE tweeked and held firm as certain others around us panic.
