Huddlestone is one hell of a talented footballer, he's just not being used in the right way; just a personal opinion. I honestly believe that sitting in front of the back four, protecting the back line, receiving the ball and setting others up is his perfect role. He doesn't display the stamina for running around all day, and he's no box to box player. His best role potentially should be the same as Thorn plays for Derby, receive and pass to other more offensive mid-fielders, and always be available to receive a pass and retain possession.
No question about his talent. Rather than see him in the role you do, I would like to see him much further forward maybe playing just behind the front two. In that position he can receive the ball much further up the pitch and then damage the opposition by playing the ball through to the strikers. When he has the freedom to play further forward he is also more likely to produce the kind of finishes he did against Boro and the kind of performance he did against Leicester in the COC. Whatever his best position is, it certainly is no longer central midfield.
The players were clearly loving the football being played by the end of the five match winning run. I just wonder what they are thinking about with the change in the style (what style?) of play with Huddlestone back. They will want to be back in the PL as much as anyone. What does it take to move from disgruntlement to losing the dressing room? Selecting Hudd looks like costing the players a huge amount of money.
You may be right, certainly when we have the ball he can be very effective in the 'hole' behind the strikers, I'm personally not too sure though as I don't think he's right for that role when we do not have possession.
huddlestone looks more effective furthur up?? What's that gotta do with anything, he's still gotta track back and close people down which he doesn't seem to be able to do. I've never even seen Huddlestone pass a ball forward, it's either back or sidewards. So how can you say he's good at getting it into the strikers. His most effective role is sat on the bench.
You really need to re-read my post, this might give you a clue: I thought Davies was cracking when paired with Dawson, so don't agree with your thoughts on him, but I'll let you have them, anyway. My point, if you are able to get into the detail, is that I think our management is so inconsistent that it is very difficult to take a really hard view on any player. Now read it and come back with something better.
Given a choice of him playing a defensive or offensive role it's the latter for me , but ideally he wouldn't play at all at present

Arise Sir Steve and take your place among the Managers of the World..................now if Tom H. is in the starting eleven for the next game, then SB, imo, is not a manager - he throws out appropriate snarly soundbites when required but having Tom out on the pitch yet again would suggest that SB is in fear of certain "big" player and hasn't got the cajones to drop them. Interesting I always thought that when we were down at half time to Sheff U in the FA semifinal, SB stood in the corner of the dressing room and let Curtis Davies do the shouting - is that an appropriate way for a manager to take charge of a situation? IF SB cannot criticize a "big" player and tell them they are being dropped due to indifferent performances and a playing style that is not working, then SB ain't a real manager.
Whilst I don't believe that dropping Huddlestone is the only change required, I completely agree that he's all talk but it means nothing. He's done the big time charlies rant before and all he did next game was drop McShane who was Man of the Match in the previous game.
Yeah he'll still pick Huddlestone again, then drop Aluko for 2 months before sticking him up front again, for another "worst game I've seen while I've been at the club" moments it's like a roundabout. Same things said, same things done. Change it Bruce for God sake! Get Hayden on, Luer and Akpom up front and if you have to bring back Aluko, play him on the wing! And for the love of God stop playing players out of position!!!!!!! rant over! For now!

If Huddlestone is so amazing a player send him to another club (that would supposedly suit him) and see it they can utilise him better. There was no interest in him in the last transfer window. This isn't a criticism of him, it's more a criticism of those who say he is amazing. He is what he is, and it's not been much use.
