I am a great fan of stability, consistency and taking a long-term view. I did not support Ramsey's appointment as manager but, to be fair, I thought during the close season and August that he had generally recruited some promising players for affordable fees. However, subsequently, his team selection, tactics, inability to coach the defence and failure to get the best out of his players means that he now looks like a dead man walking.
I am not a fan of going back. Therefore, I doubt there's much of a role for the admirable Jamie Mackie at Loftus Road in 2015/16. Even my deep affection for, and patience towards, Adel Taarabt ran out during his last, sulky season with us, so there's no welcome mat out for him either.
However, the last time I enjoyed watching QPR for any sustained period (i.e. more than one game or so) was the promotion season under Warnock. Despite the comment (above) that NW's achievements at QPR were a one-off, the man has actually won promotion on 7 separate occasions!
There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the 2015/16 QPR squad is, on paper, stronger than the motley crew that Warnock had at his disposal in 2010/11. I am sure he would do no worse than Ramsey. I might even enjoy watching QPR again. He might even get us promoted.
But then I'd worry about what we, and he (unproven at that level), would have to suffer during another painful season in the Premier League!
