The reality is Clucas is last on the sheet - ie his versatility is counting against him and Bruce sticks him in wherever there's a gap.

I like the look of him in central midfield or as a narrow left mid - but playing him at left back or right wing, where his lack of pace hinders him, doesn't make sense to me.

---------------McGregor-------------------

Dave ----- Dawson--- Davies ---Robertson

Elmo- -- Livermore ---Diame--- Clucas

------------Akpom ---Abel H------------

This "4-3-3" we're playing is really more of a 4-5-1, Maloney and Clucas don't get involved with Hernandez so he's awfully isolated. Diame's decision making yesterday was awful, but I think in terms of dynamism you can't really drop him because he brings the team forward.

The team above should be enough to beat Ipswich. Just got to make sure we don't let their strikers get too much room, they've got a decent front line.

Dave & Elmo won't work on the right, it certainly hasn't so far anyway. Bruce won't drop Huddlestone. I'd much rather Maloney in at left midfield than Clucas who adds nothing to attacking moves, he's a bit like Quinn on Mogadon. If you're playing a four in midfield with Diame in it he needs to be at the top of a diamond.

Enough of this square pegs in round holes nonsense, it's time to get players in their natural positions and get some more attacking intent in the team, particularly at home against a team we should beating.

Either 3-5-2 to cover for our full backs frailties and still get two strikers on...

-----------McGregor
----Dawson Bruce Davies
Elmo------------------Robertson
---Livermore Diame Maloney
--------Akpom Hernandez

Or just go with a more straight forward 4-4-2...

-----------McGregor
Odubajo Dawson Davies Robertson
Elmo Livermore Diame Maloney
--------Akpom Hernandez

Huddlestone or Clucas could switch with any of the midfield options, there's also a couple of options for the wing back selections, though the LB/LWB position remains problematic.

I'd go with your team OLM with the exception of Akpom and start Aluko instead.

lol, I couldn't understand that either. As usual Aluko did the square root of **** all. At least with Chooooba he's learning, whereas Aluko had made a career out of nifty footwork prior to the inevitable losing of the ball.

If Aluko was played on the left of a midfield, it'd probably be far more effective. You'd sacrifice Clucas' work rate but you'd get much more creativity.

Aluko tried pretty hard to lose the game at the death yesterday, giving the ball away with a backwards pass into a dangerous area.

Well yeah, he's an attacking player but he's not going to beat every single man he comes up against. You've gotta take rough with the smooth and with Aluko it's that sometimes he'll get tackled. Other times he won't.
****ing hell Sterling, I'd guess that in excess of 90% of the times that Aluko has the ball he either runs into a player(s) and loses it, elects to shoot when there are players in better positions that he could pass to, or simply falls over.

He's lived far too long on his sisters reputation.

Aluko out!
