That just about beats all, doesn't it.!?! My goodness, everyone here should read that link. Astonishing.
That's what the blame culture does for you. Presumably it's an insurance claim, otherwise no point in suing a child. If it affects the child, she should be ashamed.
Thing is, there is a regulation speed limit on all rivers and the Hamble would be typically around 4-6 knots. Over the years, I've seen jet-skiers and water skiers exceed it and I've never been a regular visitor to the Hamble, except to drop in on the pubs via some boat or another. So if I've occasionally seen it then it must have gone on a lot. Inevitably then, these things get banned.
I am quite certain I would b****x that up if I tried putting that on....luckily I don't have a games console.
Yes TSS you are quite right, the regulations are in place now but we were talking about way back (1960's and 70's) when controls were a little more relaxed. Water skiing was then a regular event at week-ends on the Hamble in the summer. The river above Swanwick is surprisingly wide (at high tide) and straight enough to make it ideal for the skiers. I don't know when the speed limit was introduced as I had moved on by then but I believe some rough types took over making it thoroughly unpleasant for other boat users. When they were stopped and moved off up to Northampton the river regained the serenity it enjoys to this day.
Greensaint junior says PS4 (with an withering look). I recommend an Atari 800 with a copy of 'Kevin Toms football manager' myself.
But of course it's going to affect the child. Try telling him that it's not his fault and it won't affect his relationship - his aunt just wants to get some free money from the big evil insurance company ........... He'll be on a guilt trip and his insurance, when he gets older, will be affected (these insurance companies - especially in the states - have long memories ........) She should be horse-whipped ....................
Good natured leg pulling is fun. I don't think FLT will see it as anything else. What I do like about this board and particularly KK, is that some random subject like this throws up a connection between posters that was otherwise unknown. Apart from FLT using the River Hamble for skiing, OranjeBoom used to fish on it at Botley a place that I know well. I used to fish there too and might even know him, but the names not familiar.
Perhaps you're the person to remind me which pub hires out small rowing boats and canoes [I think] during the summertime on the Hamble [or Meon]. Is it the Horse & Jockey.? Beyond that I have no idea. Sorry to be so vague.

Doesn't do Billy's street cred much good....wearing a cardigan whilst playing croquet.
