You are spot on - some people will be dancing around as if we've won a trophy when in reality all we have done is qualified from the easiest of groups. Yes you can only beat what's in front of you but once we face quality opposition - when it counts - we will be found wanting as usual. The last time we beat a major team at a major competition was Argentina in 2002. I will be pleasantly surprised if that changes at Euro 16.
I really don't think anyone is getting carried away. Everyone knows it was a crap group. The four friendlies coming up could be tasty.
half decent? you've included 4 of the last 5 world cup winners and used "half decent"? we drew with italy in march. we beat spain the last time we played them. we drew with brazil the last time we played them and beat them the time before that. our record against germany since 2000 is three wins and four defeats.
We never do it when it counts - friendlies are meaningless and I am sure we will do okay in the upcoming 4 games but when it comes to the tournament I won't be holding my breath.
