Why sign Maloney and Nolan? Yes Maloney can play on the wing but I wouldn't put him there, he wants to be in behind the strikers, which is also the same position that Nolan plays.

Sure they are holding out for slightly more. How many clubs accept the first bid? very few I suspect. Sure they will up it to 2.5/3 million if it is genuine interest.
I believe we desperately want rid of him, so if we have turned down a bid, I suspect it's only because we think they'll come back with an improved one. That said, I'm not convinced our friend Tully does anything but guess.
