I did and I'm not your mate. You are obviously not very good at reading between the lines Aren't you the one who said we wouldn't be signing Maloney?
I was the one saying I was hoping we wouldn't. I still think it's a hugely underwhelming signing in an area that we don't need. We don't even play with wingers FFS. Throwing the 1.5m at Southend for Bentley would have been much more useful. I can read between the lines fine, Bruce was immediately dismissive of any chance of Gayle coming here, and Burnsy had to pry out of him that we'd even made an official enquiry.
Yes, most businesses would quote amounts net of VAT but newspapers would tend to want to highlight the highest possible amount.
I can't be arsed to trawl through hundreds of pages, but you did say we wouldn't be signing him, in addition to saying he is too old at 32 etc. That must be an older Bruce interview you remember. Gayle now seems to be Plan B if we don't get Gray.
Chicago rejected our offer and said he wasn't for sale while they were still in the cup, so I was happy that it didn't look like happening. Clearly circumstances have changed now that they've been knocked out. If you want to compare the situations, it'd be like Palace reducing their valuation of Gayle. Then, the situation having changed, Bruce would view Gayle as affordable and go after him. FWIW I've been keen on Gayle for a while now, he has very similar stats to Gray. It's just a question of what the club can afford, and I think Gray is more affordable as his wage demands would be lesser.

A wonderfully, unbelievable post. Perhaps I'm Frank about liking Underwood, who knows? "Cry 'Havoc!' said he who fought chaos with chaos, and let slip the dogs of war" You amuse me, but in the wrong way; SCB just amuses me, as does Vern.
Gayle is pretty lightweight at 11 and a half stone whereas Gray is over a stone heavier. Either of these could fit into our side whilst we are at this level but I have my doubts as to Premier League level where I believe both of these would be out of their depth. Just my opinion.
I pretty much agree with this. Gayle is a decent player but doesn't strike me as a complement to the forwards he'd be playing with. And his wages will be high. However, I completely disagree with this. You've fallen into the Roo trap here. Gayle's 12 goals have come from 19 starts and 29 sub appearances, which actually means he's got a pretty good strike rate - especially when you consider that many of his starts have been in a wide role, out of position. I wasn't sure about him when Palace shelled out for him, but he's actually gone up in my estimations since then.
I'm not sure why Gayle is even being discussed, he's the same sort of fee as Gray, he's on much higher wages and he's obviously behind Gray on our target striker list. Unless we went for Gayle on loan, there's absolutely no reason why we wouldn't go for Gray ahead of him.
