I just don't get it, apparently the sticking point on Gray is £500k. If we played Wolves with Gray in our squad it's very reasonable to say we'd have a higher chance of beating them. If we lose this weekend and then at the end of the season we miss out on promotion by 3 points the £500k would seem like absolutely nothing compared to the riches we'd miss out on. Points at the start of the season are just as valuable as points at the end and at the moment the club are just wasting time. Either pay up what Brentford are obviously holding out for or move on and get a different target.
Seems Gayle doesn't fancy Bristol much and we can offer him a better bet at a promotion campaign which they cannot guarantee which could swing it and we also know the stated asking price so there's no need to waste time bargaining. Both a similar age and of similar ability with one a proven scorer and has also played out wider too to good effect in the Prem, the other with bags of potential but unproven yet and will be more expensive, i know where I would be looking rather sharpish or we could end up with neither.
I don't think Gayle wants to be back in the Championship. If he isn't wanted at Palace, then another PL team like Leicester or Bournemouth will come in for him.
The carrot being that it's virtually top end promotion campaign Championship football Sterling and top league again next season, surely he would fancy that?
Or hold out for a move to a PL team that can pay him better wages. He proved in his last 2 seasons that he's capable of playing at the top level; it'd be detrimental to his career progression if he dropped down to us so on that basis I don't think he will. Not unless we offer him a ridiculous wage and I don't think we're prepared to do that.
I think he'd rather come here where he will get to play in the PL for a long time after this season than Bournemouth or Leicester where he will get one more season before getting a relegation on his CV.
38 games isn't that long. Plus his clock is ticking; he's already 25, his ability will have stopped progressing and his stats will begin to drop.
I can see that looking at the club we should be able to stay in the Premier League but reality seems to suggest otherwise.
Steve Bruce admits 'five or six players' could leave this summer please log in to view this image Hull City boss Steve Bruce admits striker Abel Hernandez could be "one of five or six" players to leave the club during the transfer window. Torino are keen to sign the Uruguay international who moved to the KC Stadium in a £10m deal from Palermo last September. Bruce says that relegation from the Premier League leaves the club with little room for manoeuvre when it comes to players like Hernandez, who may have buy-out clauses in their contracts. “The most difficult thing for me is that the transfer window is still open,” Bruce said at his Friday press conference. “With relegation, I’ve said it many times, people rightly take pay cuts. But with pay cuts, it means people have got buy-outs in their contracts. “If that happens, we’re powerless. So if someone picks up the phone tomorrow and bids for Abel Hernandez, for example and they get to the trigger point, he’s off. “It’s what we want to guard against and if the window closed today I’d be delighted. “But somehow I feel it in my bones that, as there are three weeks to go, we’ve got to be ready and try to do some planning. It might just happen in the next 24 or 48 hours. "I’m not just talking about Abel, it could be five or six of the players I’ve got here.” http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-five-or-six-players-could-leave-this-summer?
I think it's saying there's 5 or 6 players in a similar situation to Abel, as in they have a release clause.
The sooner we tell Brentford to ram it, the better. Gray only scored 18 goals in 50 appearances, which is definitely not worth the £8.5m + £2m in add ons. You would expect him to be 21 and had scored 25 goals last season for that price... (I bet the tribunal dealing with the situation with Ings to Liverpool will set his price lower than what Brentford are asking for Gray)
Again, it's not just about the goals, it's about his overall game. If he isn't worth it, we won't pay it. Honestly, it's like some people on here assume Bruce is a massive ****wit when it comes to scouting players, like all he's done is what you lot have done and watched a 3 minute youtube clip of his goals.
Why does bruce keep banging on about it? its almost like he is trying to drum up business. Shut it fat man, lets try fly under the radar.
They're asking for £7m, they've been asking for £7m since day one and we're not going to get a better striker than him for that money. We should either **** or get off the pot.
