We should sign him on loan with a view to a permanent deal in January or the summer. That way we're covered, if he's ****/injured then we can get rid, if he rips the league apart then we have a set price to pay for him.

After the business with Ben Arfa last season doubt SB would touch Powell with a barge pole, if the rumour's are correct of his time at Leicester.

For a player playing at a **** club that got relegated twice in his time there, 17 assists is very good.

But of course, you'd gloss over performances and just look at which league he plays in, his goal return (despite the fact he isn't a striker) and his age.

You really are hanging around Roo too much.

So far the ages of three players we've signed are 24, 19 and 20. We're about to sign a 22 year old in Odubajo and they'll all be joining 21 year old A-Bob and 22 year old Harry Maguire, not to mention any of the development squad that might make the breakthrough.

You can't just have a team full of kids, no matter how much Football Manager you play, it doesn't work in real life. You need a good blend of youth and experience and Maloney would bring the latter in abundance. We have a few older players already, but I don't think it'd hurt to bring in a couple of players who are both talented and experienced.

Considering the post you quoted was about assists, not sure where you get the 'look at his goal return' bit from.

17 assists in what, 4 seasons? Pretty average really.

Elmo would have had almost half of that just last season.

EDIT: Lol, he did, 5 assists last season. And he was playing at RWB when Maloney is meant to be an out an out winger.

I think by younger he means 25-26 year old, approaching their prime, with enough scope still to improve so that they would:
    A) Be able to play in the PL for us if we were promoted
    B) Have sell-on value

What Bruce actually said was blending youth with experience.

Why on earth would that have any scope, from a fans perspective, on how we judge signings?

For starters, why the hell would we want to sell a player on if we get promoted? Why are we thinking about selling a player on before we've even bought him? It's ludicrous. Do you honestly think we bought Robertson because his age meant we'd get a huge fee for him? Of course not, we bought him because he's got the potential to be a great player for us and his ability is good enough to get him into our first team.

Why wouldn't Maloney be able to play in the Premier League?

Wait, since when was 5 half of 17?

Kin ell Al, you need to go back to school it seems.

You really seem to hate Maloney.

Let me ask you a question - what was your opinion on Koren before he came? You know, with him having similar statistics to those of Maloney and being over 30?

When we went up into the PL in 13, one of the key things with buying players to create a squad to keep us up was having youth in the side of a quality that would mean that if we did have to then sell them, we'd get good value - as has happened with Chez and Brady. For instance with guys like Robertson and Maguire.

I'm not saying you look at a player as soon as they're through the door and rub your hands together thinking "Excellent! That's probably a 5m profit in a year or two!" but having some foresight and not being entirely myopic is probably a good thing.

"Almost half". Geeze, if I have to learn to count you need to learn to read.

Robert Koren? You mean that guy that was:

    A) Free
    B) Released from a PL club
    C) Only just 30 as opposed to almost 33

    ?

And this is where we got to yesterday. I'm all for discussing the pros and cons of players, but does it really have to descend into personal abuse just because you don't agree?

You mean he not still at school? He seems to think everyone over 30 should be put down.

<laugh> You have to nearly double your original number of 5 to get even close to it. You really should learn to count.

You need at least 8 to get near the 17, and 5 and 8, although in the grand scheme of things look close, in footballing terms, they ain't.

Where his stats not similar to Maloney? Was he over 30?

In fact, I think his stats were worse than Maloney's. What are your thoughts on Koren?
