Where did I make any assertions about it being acceptable to run over people? Unlike you I am advocating pedestrians follow the regulations and only cross at a designated place when the light is on green. You are asserting they can do what they want and any resulting accidents are the fault of any vehicle drivers who may come into contact with them. If pedestrians can cross where and when they want and ignoring the little red man on crossings why do we waste money having them?
Care to show me the UK regulation that says pedestrians have to cross at the designated place? They've created 'desire' crossings on some roads, such as Newland Ave. They're not designated crossings, but the hope is people use them. I've shown you some of the UK regulations that show you're simply wrong and drivers have to show responsibility and cede to all other road users. There may be other mitigating factors, but that's the basis of the law.
So you can't show anything to back up your statement that I advocated running people down? What is the point of having red and green men on a crossing to indicate when it is safe to cross when numpties ignore them and cross inane case and other numpties then blame any resulting accident on anyone but the numpty who had ignored the red man? About time, as in some other countries, that they brought in jaywalking laws. Unfair to those numpties who believe they should be able to do what they want when they want but everyone else should obey the rules, but life can be tough sometimes.
So you've realised that you're wrong about the regulations here in the UK. That's one put to bed. Now, the issue of being acceptable to run people over is simply a natural consequence of your argument. You seem to be claiming that there's no fault on a driver that's approaching a known risk area, but doesn't take it into consideration because of some non-existent Regulation. Apart from perhaps helping people realise that they need to drive with a bit more consideration for others, it's all rather dull and pointless, and detracting from Dazzer's hard work.
Thats just a cliche though. No one goes to Leeds from the south in order to get to Scotland. They go to Leeds to visit Leeds. We're an hour away from Leeds. Newcastle for example is massively out of the way yet no one ever says it about Newcastle. And people still go there for the nightlife and whatever else. Or Norwich for example, that's in the middle of nowhere. Hull might be difficult to get to from Cambridge or wherever you are, but from anywhere central its easy.
Because we prefer shopping in a pleasant & historic place where there is as much to admire & take in with it's many lovely medieval buildings, quaint narrow streets & secret snickleways.....largely unspoilt in the centre by massive shopping centres (largely under occupied) York is a pleasant & welcoming place to shop & if you want the large retail experience it is only a short bus or car ride away.......we find Hull as a former port built around a now defunct fishing trade to be a depressing place for shopping, with too many large disjointed shopping areas. I moved out of Hull many years ago for work, and when a job closer to home came up I moved back to the area.......but would never have considered moving back into Hull itself Even when I lived in Hull (over 35 years ago now) I hated it as a place to shop.........we still shopped out of Hull
It's ironic that York has it's historic, attractive streets in no small part because, unlike Hull at the time, it couldn't afford to replace them.
Maybe.....but we are the same when it comes to seaside resorts......give me the quaint largely underdeveloped Whitby, Staithes over the brash, vulgar & now very scruffy Scarborough...or to a lesser extent Bridlington
Pisses me off when people move out of Hull and into the suburbs, when they earn a bit of money, then go on to tell us how **** it is. Thank **** there's people like dazzar trying to make a positive contribution.
I thought it even when I lived there. I didn't move to the suburbs, I moved to Dorset, Kent, Northumbria, Germany (for 2 years), Southport & then back to Ferriby.....I never earned any money while I lived in Hull......once I got out I started to I'm not trying to put down what dazzer is trying to do, all I'm saying is that Hull has no right to expect any claim when it comes to being a Capital City in any part of a Northern Powerhouse.....the South Bank hate Hull & much of the East Riding does too
Not particularly having a go at you fella. Your situation isn't atypical of the point I'm making. But there are some loathsome east riding types that take great joy out of slagging off Hull. Always at a disadvantage when we lose our council tax payers to an authority that's 10 minutes down the road.
But the way the grant system works, Hull gets as much as the entire East Riding, while the East Riding has to deliver it's services over a huge geographic area. The two councils have totally different challenges when it comes to managing their finances & services......the East Riding does have the benefit of overall higher property values thus higher Council Tax income than Hull being rural, while Hull benefits from being able to provide a more centralised service without the need for delivering services over a large geographic area....but loses out due to lower property values & problems associated with all Urban & Inner City areas.
What a load of crap. You seem to be claiming that no accident is the fault of a pedestrian and they can walk across the road with impunity, ignoring red lights for them on crossings whilst expecting motorists to obey red lights or decide to cross where they feel like without looking. Any resulting accident being everyone's fault but theirs. Apart from these numpties needing to realise they need to use a bit more sense and not act like completely stupid morons it is rather dull and pointless.
There is an imbalance due to various other income streams/subsidies open to the East Riding that Hull doesn't get. The centralisation issue tends to mean that East Riding residents use facilities in Hull thatnthey'd otherwise have to provide for themselves and that some may not necessarily want near them.
You must be a really poor driver. Are you ignorant of all laws or just the rules of the road? You made the daft comment about regulations. All I've done is point you at the proper laws and show you where you're wrong. Now, unless you've found a law that permits running pedestrians over, I think it's best left.
That does also work the other way.......many Hull residents now use the newly upgraded Haltemprice Leisure Centre......in fact I believe when they did a survey it was around 50% of all users. Not sure what facilities the people of the East Riding use that Hull provides .....you could say HRI but then again the East Riding could say Castle Hill.....there is nothing to stop Hull City Council charging non residents for services provided free for it's taxpayers........in the same way the East Riding & other councils could I cannot say that other than the KC.....I don't use any Hull City Council provided facilities & I have paid a fair bit toward the privilege of using the KC ......Hull City Council has also had a fair bit of income from none HCC residents through the KC phone network (certainly until we got better cheaper alternatives)
