Don't really understand why people in Newcastle are getting so excited about a manager that bottled it in the championship.

I think he's a good manager, too many people judge him on the England job imo. Given time & money I think he will do well there - he done a fantastic job at another (smaller) north east club. He also learnt from the best.

Also it's intereting that he's on the board of directors as well, and Mike Ashley has removed him self as a director.

Because they've just had John Carver in charge...I'd be excited by Jan Poortvliet after that.

I quite like McClaren actually. He seems a good guy, and has shown he has adapted to different roles in different club structures.

There isn't many English managers that have won both the League Cup, and the Eredivisie with a team other than Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord.

I thought he was very unlucky with Derby. People have short memories, because he took a side from being pretty much midtable and tredding water, into a promotion-pushing side. In truth, they should've gone up in the Play-Offs against QPR, and they should've at least made the play-offs this season. Injuries played a big part.

He is a good coach, and that is what Newcastle want. They should give him a chance, and realise that not many want to work in that club structure. That being said, ths is Newcastle.....

Newcastle 1/2 favourites currently to sign him. Followed by Chelsea (4/1) then us (9/2)

    West Ham out at 12/1

Don't think there's anything as nailed on next season as the fact that McClaren will not succeed at Newcastle. Grim reaper, dour, old school - if you think he has a chance of motivating anything, let alone anything at Newcastle, you've got blinkers on. He's certainly not the miracle worker they need anyway.

Wouldn't say I've got blinkers on, wouldn't say Newcastle need a miracle worker either just a bit of investment (which I think they will get) and to give a manager time. You say old school, I'd disagree with that, his time spent in Europe has opened his eyes up to the modern way of running clubs, I'm not saying they will do great this year, but they won't be in relegation trouble and given time they'll be a top half side (as they should be).

    So how does this work.

Agent: Charlie, Newcastle/frozen north cemetery of dreams want you. Chelsea/current champions like you too.

CA: oh bloody hell. That's a tough call

Reckon he'll mess it up, with help from Ashley. Would say I'd love to be proven wrong, but I wouldn't. Two spectacular fails with Derby. Can you honestly expect players to be motivated by that face? But also, knowing about Derby, and his Dutch accent etc. He's a figure of fun for that at best. Accept it's just me guessing, but I would be amongst those saying well done to him if he does turn them around.

The former, where you will likely be adored by 50,000 hardcore geordies, and could become the king of tyneside, or the latter, where you will rot in the reserves, as a mere side-thought to a bunch of arrogant, racist twats.

Money v game time. Chelsea in the market for someone to replace Remy's role as rarely-playing striker.

So his wish to stay South counts for nothing.? If it was me then I'd by saying Newcastle can forget being interested. Bookies say they are the favourites. I very much doubt Charlie Austin feels the same way.

Not saying he's going to toon - but if people are convinced he will be staying down south there could be some money to be made there.

According to the bookies, we are the odds-on favourites to sign Song from Barca. West Ham have declared their interest this morning. I would be very happy with him.
