I'm gonna stick my neck out and say David Beckham should chuck his hat in the ring for FIFA President.

No experience (but that's a good thing), whiter then white, respected worldwide.

He would unite a new FIFA.

Id think he would have to give up on his MLS dreams if he did that. His hands are full just trying to get a stadium location.

Recent reports suggest that the ROI FA chairman John Delaney saying that FIFA paid hush money which was accepted over the Thierry Henry handball incident to stop the ROI FA taking out legal action.

Amount said to be approx. £5m

If true then the ROI FA are as bad as FIFA and have badly let down the ROI fans.

update.

This story is now gaining some pace within the media.

The ROI FA should be made to explain what was done with the payment ?

They say that a signed confidentiality agreement with Fifa wont allow them to confirm the exact amount.

If true then I can see a court tearing that agreement apart and asking to see the details. ATM FIFA has no sway at all and if it becomes clear that it is corrupt then I can't see such an agreement carrying much weight legally.

True,, but how low are the ROI FA now ? The ROI players of that time were robbed big time. At the very least a re.match should have been allowed. Fifa wanted France more than the ROI at the finals.

When everything is out in the open I hope FIFA as an organisation is shut down. If we imagine UEFA and our own FA are squeaky clean I reckon we are in for some surprises. Stuff like this seriously makes me not want to watch football anymore.

Oh i suspect that many FA's have issues. But non as bad as Fifa. Fifa can survive but only after a new broom has swept it all clean.

Ireland were robbed. No doubt about it.

But the referee gave the goal.

Fair or unfair that's the end of the story.

The Irish FA couldn't take legal action.

The match would never have been replayed.

If they've accepted money from FIFA and not shown it in their accounts they should answer for that.

I'm sure their auditors would be very interested.

The issue is over the payment for the dropping of legal action being taken out by the ROI FA.

Everyone knew that the ROI had been cheated. No amount of money should have stopped the action.

Probably paid into a Swiss bank account just down the road from FIFA's office.

This is why Blatter has been in power for so long. All the corrupt FA's around the world needed him as President to hide all the murky transactions.
Corruption is not just a FIFA problem, it's endemic in all the national FA's as well.
Where do you possibly start to clean up the game ?

The Mafia must be looking on in awe.

England were cheated against Germany in South Africa. Lampard's shot was a good metre over the line.

And what about the 66 World Cup final?

Where would an FA take legal action?

Against whom?

To what end?

As you can clearly see, the FAI Chief Executive looks like a FIFA loving man - funny how this money has never before been mentioned by Delaney to the Irish public.

The fact that the ROI FA took a large £££££ payment to stop a legal action is beyond words.

Here is Delaney with his latest wife/girlfriend. The guy pays himself a fortune out of FAI funds and money can get you things that might otherwise be out of your league. Apparently Sepp took a shine to his beau, so nothing new there.
