    More (not quite) breaking news. Greg Dyke has backed Platini's bid. Platini now expected to pull out of the race after being heard to say "what is ze point, that priick cannot even influence a vote in 'is own country".

    I don't like Blatter, I don't like Platini. I remember being told, as a young man, "The wogs begin at Calais." Which I suppose was an insular outlook, shortly after WW2, based on generations of conflict throughout our history. I do not necessarily agree with that sentiment or approve of the terminology but I think there is a disdain of England in the world football community and I have no confidence in FIFA ever getting it sorted just as I have no confidence in the UN. Too many national, business or otherwise vested interests and too many pockets waiting for unmarked brown envelopes.

    Sorry if I am getting close to crossing the political line.
