I disagree. Much as I rate Coutinho, he isn't good enough or reliable enough to warrant spending millions to build a team just around him. Only players of Suarez' ability get that treatment, and even then it's a risky strategy that means when the player is injured (or leaves) we're back to square 1 with a team that doesn't work. We need to build a team in which all the players fit together, not are just designed to get the best out of one player.
You still need that focal point. There's no point building a team which stifles your best players - our best players are Sterling and Coutinho who thrive on movement and dynamism. Agree that we can't rely on just one person but a good manager is one who creates a system which suits his players. Not impose a system on them. By bringing in Benteke, we're effectively changing our style and imposing a style on our best player attacking player, Coutinho.
I agree that Benteke is the wrong signing, but not because he wouldn't get the best out of Coutinho necessarily, more that he wouldn't fit our entire team and play style- just like Balotelli he needs ball to feet and scores from corners/set pieces.
Clyne would be a good signing, shown form at Southampton and will be a reasonable fee if a but more than we want to pay. Can really push on at LFC... Oh. Wait. I'm sure I've heard this before sometime. Can't quite put my finger on when but it sounds really familiar
All joking aside, are some of you skeptical about signing from us after the lack of success of last years £50m outlay?
Not really. We signed players that weren't good enough because Rodgers does most of his scouting via MOTD where Lovren and Lallana excelled. Anyone who watches football knows that Wanyama and Morgan are your best players.
Maybe practice makes perfect? I guess it's about identifying whether the player can step up. I think we all knew Lambert didn't really fit, but hoped he would get by because he's local and he was only cheap anyway, but I don't think any of us really expected Lovren to be as awful as he has been. I think Clyne would do a steady job for us, but I don't expect him to be a world beater.
In for a Southampton player before the window opens..... In for a right back Will no doubt be in for a central midfielder and at least one striker.... Feels like we've been here before!
Targeting Ings, Milner, Clyne and Benteke. The good old policy of buying from Britian which has served us so well. When will we learn?
You have to see the funny side....surely?? Am sure most will when we have our pants ripped down and get publicly shafted as per all of our other SFC signings!
Don't be stupid....the scouts are still looking for someone who only 5% of the footballing world have ever heard of
