If we start the championship season with the defenders we currently have then losing Rosenior and McShane is irrelevant, we'll have the best defence in the league. Releasing those two becomes a bad decision if we sell start to sell some of those that are left.

You don't need 6 centre backs in the Championship, the one out of contract was always going to be the one to go.

Yet again another example of the mismanagement of the last couple of seasons, we have/had six centre backs yet a very thin central midfield, and now seemingly, based on the fact that all three are rumoured to want to leave, absolutely no forwards.

The complete imbalance of our squad is probably one of the main reasons that we now find ourselves in the Championship, and after last seasons spend of £42M I think the big question should be why. The loss of stalwarts such as Rosie and Macca simply add more fuel to the fire for me. As much as I like Steve Bruce it appears that he hasn't really helped himself, or us, with many of his bizarre decisions.

If Davies goes, and if a PL club offers for Chester and starts to woo him, then I think we may very well look back on the easy relinquishing of McShane ruefully.

Same if offers come in for Elmo and Rosie isn't there.

Let's hope our club knows what it's doing...

Remember McShane was happy to disrupt the squad and throw a tantrum when he didn't get his own way, which was around the time new contracts were getting handed out, its only been the last few months of the season that he sorted himself out and established himself in the team.

All we actually know he did was tweet that he was training with the U21s. He nor Bruce never revealed the reason why, but he was treated poorly in being dropped after Burnley away with the 'big time charlies' comments.

Let's face it forget what luck we have not had or late goals or bad ref decisions we are down because quite a few of our players can't cut it in the top league.

We are bound to lose some and maybe now Bruce is realising you can't have sentiment with players as a manager and has decided to let people go and try and bring in better ,we do not know what finances he will have to bring in players or if he has some loans lined up and he needs to free up finances to pay them.

We are not managers if we knew better we would be at some club doing it,i have no problem with rosey or mcshane going it was inevitable we would lose some and just because they put in 100% so what they got paid to do that like all the team did and hopefully those who never will be gone as well it is to early to say what bruce is going to do yet.

I guess it was inevitable with his spat with SB and the fact that with Dawson/Bruce/Maguire/Davis ( I would expect to see Chester go) under contract, we probably have enough Centre backs. Personally I am very sorry to see him go, and I would have kept him, as he will forever be a City favourite of mine.

We have got a lot of centre backs. Maguire was apparently outstanding for Wigan at that / this level.

Maybe because Alex is not afraid to stick his boot in to a tackle more often than most.

True, same goes for McShane though and he doesn't have to go off after an hour every week.

I actually agree with keeping Bruce, said it weeks ago, not sure a 2 year deal was really warranted but still. Just don't get why you'd get rid of McShane if you're giving a new deal to the lesser player.

'The impending departures of McShane and Rosenior this summer will install James Chester as the club's longest-serving player. Only he and Robbie Brady pre-date the Bruce reign that began three years ago this week.'

And we might well lose both of them.

I thought you signed Brady and Chester on loan under Nige but then signed them up permo under that short bloke (can't for the life of me think what his name is, not had my coffee. Even though his lad plays for us).

i like McShane but i don't get why people are hating Alex Bruce so much , he is similar in ability and in heart , certainly Macca and Bruce are players you would want when the weaker minded are losing their form and not staying "classy" .
Last season ive loved so many of Alex Bruces no holds barred tackles , wrongly penalised sometimes too .
I agree. It is a shame that McShane is to be released but come on, this is football, the players know they are not here for ever when they sign for a club. Paul McShane has had seven good years at Hull City. The club has probably made him a millionaire.
Macca is a player who wears his heart on his sleeve and he always gives 100%, which is why he we have kept him on for seven years, but players move on for all sorts of reasons.
I thank Macca for his service to Hull City and wish him all the luck in the world with his next move.
He will be looked back on with legendary status, and we cannot say that about too many ex-City players.
I also think it is grossly unfair to be comparing his departure with Alex Bruce signing a new contract as though they are connected.
Alex Bruce also never lets us down and is as committed as Macca ever was.
And no-one on here knows the details or the figures behinds these contracts.

The Wigan team that got relegated? I know a ST holder at the Latics - said he was 'Ok'. Certainly not 'Outstanding'.

Erm, yes. Signing one centre back when you're already in the bottom 3 is hardly likely to save them. You talk as if they were well clear of the bottom 3 and then signed Maguire. It's not like Derby being top, signing Ince and then hardly winning another game.

Only a 'lesser player' in your opinion.

That is what I worry, but maybe it is a sign that they a determined to keep Chester and Davies, unless of cause a large offer comes in for either.

On Elmo, I get the feeling he is very much an ally SB and SB of him, and with the owners being Egyptian I expect he will stay.
