I do agree if we look at the history of this seriously.
October: Talks begin
December Rodgers says a deal is "close"
Early January Rodgers send sterling off on a holiday
Late January rodgers says deal will be signed "
very imminently."
Late January, reputedly Turns down contact wanting to negotiate commercial image rights first.
Feburary: Rodgers makes "incredible deal" claim
Mid march. Puts contract talks "on hold"
April: Sterling does interview with BBC.
"He also says he will not discuss a new contract with the Reds until the summer, no matter how big a deal he might be offered in the meantime.
"It's not about the money at all," the England forward said.
"It's never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That's all I talk about."
"I keep hearing I've rejected all sorts of contracts. Me, the club and my reps have spoken about it and put talks on hold until end of season, so it's frustrating to hear the contract situation keep going on and on. I just wanted to get my point across on the whole thing."
Mid april: press publish pictures of sterling acting up with pipe.
May: Gerrard: “Of course I’m biased but my advice to Raheem now is you have a manager who will believe in you and you can learn from and there is no one better than Brendan Rodgers for that. He should sign a new deal here. Brendan is a fantastic man-manager and puts a lot of time and effort into the development of an individual. The danger for these young players is they want it all too soon and they go chasing it. Then they go to another club and just become a number.”
almost immediately: "Sources close to sky" say
"Raheem Sterling is set to resume contract talks with Liverpool later this week but intends to tell them he does not plan to sign a new deal, according to
Sky sources.
Sky sources understand Sterling feels aggrieved at the manner in which contract negotiations have been handled because he feels the club have tried to bully him into signing a new contract. He also does not think he has been sufficiently protected him from negative headlines.
It is understood the 20-year-old England international winger will make a decision about his future by Friday, when he is due to meet with manager Brendan Rodgers and chief executive Ian Ayre."
..............................................
for me:
1. We have too many mouth peices at our club. Rodgers has to learn at minimum not to talk like a big man all the time when things are not dealt with
2. Its clear we left it far too late to move on certain players. I am not sure if the cub thought wisely or not about timing of stelring negotiations but it seems he was never signing from october.
3. We've been far too lenient on this little ****. IMO we've fostered bad feeling by playing favorites with him then not disciplining him and now he thinks he can do anything
4. gerrard has been quite a mouth since he announced he was leaving. His comments on sterling were not needed but my view is they are merely an excuse in a long term plan this agent and player have had. There was zero intent to sign way back in january and LFc should have sold then.
