Sturridge has really earnt his £160,000 a week this season. He has been so good Sterling has even had a run up front<ok>

I agree that we should definitely be building the team around Coutinho but what's going to stop him from leaving in a years time after seeing other teammates leave?

And Sterling is one of the best prospects in world football - he scores goals, assists, creates chances and works hard/presses well. His stats are comparable to the bright talents in Europe and world class players like Ronaldo/Suarez at the same age. He is the best talent to come through the academy since Gerrard.

And as I say - I don't think this is about money. Do you think he wants to stay at Liverpool and win nothing, whilst playing with the likes of Lallana and Lambert?

Throwing money at Sterling is as likely to hamper the future development as it is to solve it. What happens if Ibe or Sinclair have a good year next year? Do they come knocking for £100grand plus too? It's unsustainable, it's unrealistic and it's unjustified what the lad expects us to pay him. He isn't anywhere near world class, he misses a lot more than he scores, he has a left foot that's as effective as nettles for treating thrush and his commitment has been none existent all season.

Do you really think he gives a **** who he's playing next to? <laugh> If we offered him the cash he wants he'd play next to Rolf Harris and Gary Glitter. What happens if he signs a massive contract with us then has a decent first half of next season? You think his agent's not going to be pestering for another new contract? Talented he may be but he's nowhere near irreplacable especially given his current form on the pitch. Even Lallana and Lambert have given us more in the last few months (and that really isn't saying much).....in fact as poor as they are I'd rather pay my money to watch those two because at least I get the feeling they are trying their hardest and it's pretty clear Raheem isn't willing to do the same.

Sturridge earned that by being the 2nd highest goalscorer in the league and a rate of 0.7 goals/game.
Do us a graph demonstrating what Sterling should be paid in comparison to Sturridge. Probably best to do it over this and last season. If it was just based on this season Sterling would be due about £500k a week which is just shy of what Falcao is on (source: The Sisu Times).

Fair point. Playing devil's advocate.

But Sterling was brilliant at the back end of last season and carried our attack for the first half of this season with very little support.

Like it or not, he's still one of our best players in the team (regardless of age).

This is not a defence of Sterling - more of an indictment of the club but spunking money up the wall on Lallana and Mario.

Sky sources understand Sterling feels aggrieved at the manner in which contract negotiations have been handled because he feels the club have tried to bully him into signing a new contract. He also does not think he has been sufficiently protected him from negative headlines.

So its the clubs fault Sterling got smoking the pipe, the clubs fault that one of his 'mates' leaked it to the press and its the clubs fault they didn't stop the press publishing it. Grow up.
You're a footballer, news papers live off selling stories about footballers, the negative headlines are of your own making. Want to be protected from them don't be a ****ing numpty and do daft things.

In fact the club barely did anything about that story other than say he shouldn't be doing it. He wasn't even benched for a single game.

Jeez you wums can't even see that a golden chance to wum the whole lfc board is here and you end up playing with astro.... again... over graphs..

get back on program! don't let him distract you from this. I suggest a small club can't keep hold of players line.

Raheem Sterling has admitted he always dreamed of playing for Arsenal ever since Arsene Wenger visited him in hospital when he was 8 years old, Raheem was suffering from floppy hand syndrome and said "the kindness Mr Wenger showed me will never be forgotten, he also brought me a Happy Meal which was lovely". Sterling went on to explain that money was not his motivation, not even football was his true love it was the kindness of that lovely French fella and the need for more McDonalds based products that is the true driving force behind his proposed move to Arsenal.

Do people remember a 18yr old Sterling signing a new £35k per week deal in Dec 2012...? Seriously, how much bullying can one man take!!!

Which is why the time to negotiate a new deal was a while back. That didn't suit his agent's commission though.

I agree - I don't believe in giving him stupid amounts. But that's the position this club is in. Why? Because Rodgers has made us sh*t and bought crap replacements for Suarez in the form of Lallana and Mario. Regardless of age, Sterling is one of our best players which is why he feels he can command high wages relative to his stature at the club.

And yes, I do think he cares about who plays alongside - not everything is about money. You make it sound like we're offering him money for a great opportunity to stay at Liverpool. We're not - we're offering him a deal to stay to potentially win nothing, continue playing with mediocre players, and being played out of position. Is that good for his development?

don't care... he's a ****ebag.

And why were these negotiations leaked to the press? ...

Everyone looks bad in this case, and we shouldn't instantly think that the club are the good guys in all of this. Something that Tony Barrett from The Times alluded to.

...because the club knew ages ago he was angling for either a massive wage or a move? Whoever leaked it, agent or club, I couldn't care less. Let's not pretend Raheem is "all upset because LFC leaked his contract negotiations". He'd already turned down an offer that most of us feel was the very top end of what he's currently worth.

Jimmy you talk as if I'm loathe to criticise the club <laugh> I'm hardly shy in criticising the whole ****ing lot of them am I really? In this case however I'm 100% supportive of them not throwing any more money at this lad. Even the most anti-Liverpool folk can see this kids best interests would be served at Anfield for at least another couple of seasons.

He simply isn't worth any more (if he's even worth that) and frankly I really don't see what else club or manager should be doing to try and get him to stay. You can criticise Rodgers as part of your agenda but here's a lad who was given total faith by the manager on the pitch, here's a lad who the manager has been almost nauseating in his regular praise of, here's a lad the manager gave a ****ING HOLIDAY to mid-season.....and here's a lad who's about to cry about "how badly treated he's been".....wake up Jimmy

Given that Sturridge is on 140k a week (Had no idea, thats ****ing ridiculous), that sheds new light on it.
Sterling may be looking and saying "Well he is injured all season, and I am having to carry the attack all on my shoulders and he gets 100k a week MORE than I do?!"

If he hadn't had a bad season, in retrospect, Sterling would have a point. BUT, he has been pretty bad this season.
I still don't know where Sterling thinks he is gonna go.
United.....no.
Chelsea.....no.
City? Do they need him? No...and with FFP they have other areas to focus on.
Arsenal? Would Wenger really give a 20 year old 100k a week? The Wenger of old wouldn't, this new Wenger who has been let off the financial leash may not give a f**k.

Sturridge on 140k, I am still shell shocked!! Thats the same amount as Costa and I thought that was too much.

The kids poison, **** him off.

I do agree with you in most parts - just merely adding the other side of the argument.

But whilst fans may want to focus their anger on Sterling, I want to focus on the reasons for him wanting to leave. Because it's in a mediocre and vulnerable state. That's the real issue behind this.

He was on £35k last year but he wasn't quick to leave then. If we had finished 2nd this season, I doubt he would have kicked up like this.

As I say, everyone is at fault - Sterling, his agent, the club (maybe not for the negotiations but for the position we're now in). <ok>

And for the record - I'll happily take £40m for him. He's not irreplaceable and we could sign 2-3 quality players to build a spine/core.

Good for his development????.....Raheem obviously thinks he's been developed enough by us that he's now worth £180 ****ing grand a week though eh <doh> Maybe we should have developed him into being worth £240 ****ing grand a week? Is that what you think he's moaning about? <laugh>

Rodgers hasn't made us **** by the way....we were **** under Kenny (according to some <whistle>) and we were **** under Woy (according to all)....oh and we were pretty **** the last couple of years under Rafa too. Rodgers has just been a steady hand at maintaining the ****ness :)

Our wage structure has always rewarded performing players with generous deals. Sterling isn't worth breaking it.

Lol! Can't argue with that.
