Crikey. Even Tory MPs are saying Ed Balls will be "a big loss to The Commons". Some even conceding he was the "top economist in The House".

OK, I said I wouldn't comment further, but feel I have to on this issue.
I agree that Ed Balls will indeed be a loss as Nick Robinson also said. I found the guy really dislikeable as a person, but I still respect him!!

It's looking worse than the exit poll :(

Very narrow Tory majority looking possible. A bad day for the country. I'm disappointed in the electorate being suckers for the scare tactics and shameless lies, but this is a democracy and have to accept that.
better than the fools who wanted scottish nationalists and unions to have the control

Yep but it seems most people couldn't give a **** about others- really ****ing depressing
better to have some people get ****ed over than to have everyone get ****ed over, which is what would happen with Back-stabber Miliband in power.

As much as I dislike UKIP:

Nearly 4million votes (13% of the vote) = 1 seat = broken electoral system

What a depressing result.

This is a victory for misinformation, personal attacks and media manipulation more than it is about good politics.

Who's ready to move to Sweden?!

Got my German Language exams coming up. Even Germany's CDU-led government has to be better than a Tory majority :emoticon-0105-wink:

Not the best of results from the point of running the country. I can see the tail wagging the dog as the more right wing tory back-benchers will be in position to exert far more authority than they ever did within the coalition. Not as bad as being wagged either by UKIP or the SNP but still leaves the PM in the ironic position of winning more votes and more seats than last time round but in far more danger of the knives being sharpened behind his back than in 2010 if he does not listen to his back benchers.

I felt that Clegg's resignation speech was a credit to him and I agree with David Steel's assessment that history is likely to judge him more kindly than the electorate just have. I feel that a decent man has led his party to oblivion for the greater good of the country and that takes a huge amount of integrity. I understand people being frustrated about the compromises he and the LD's had to make in coalition but they forget the positive differences the LD policies have made and I suspect we will now see a significant move to the right despite the PM's lip service to one nation conservatism.

Not upset by the loss of Danny Alexander as he broke the ethos of "what happens on tour, stays on tour" and I doubt anyone would trust him sufficiently to work with him despite his obvious talent.

Hopefully come Saturday evening Ed Balls will have a bit more of a smile on his face as something Blue gets comprehensively beaten in East Anglia. COYY

for anyone who remember britain pre Thatcher it's the best result possible. Nothing would **** us more than the SNP and trade Unions calling the shots, some people remember well three day weeks, brown outs and shortages

Cleary you have only ready the first 12 words of my post and not made it to the third sentence......

I don't disagree that it is better to have a small majority than a corpse Government sustained by endless concessions to the SNP but personally I would have rather seen a bigger Tory majority to allow Cameron to have a bit more control or another Lib/Con coalition to keep the more hardline right-wingers in check.

However I also agree that the Murdoch press (in fact pretty much all the press, The Grauniad and Mirror possible exceptions) are going to give him some right stick in the final run in and do everything they possibly can to damage his chances of being elected to stop him from imposing Leveson's recommendations, and my big fear is that we are going to see a repeat of the 1992 campaign where despite leading all the polls, Kinnock fell at the final hurdle and lost out to Major, largely in part to the backing Murdoch gave to the Tories - remember the headline "It Was The Sun Wot Won It"?
I've got a really bad feeling we're going to see dodgy Dave back at number 10 later this week, a really horrible feeling - hope I'm wrong!

Looks like you were right, mate.

Absolute bullshit <doh>

This is the problem, too many idiots are suckered in and actually believe **** like this, shame on them <doh>

I take it back, . I knew LD would be screwed as soon as they made the coalition, their natural bed fellows were labour but they could never have put Brown back in, they would've been lynched.
The main problem with this election is there was only one candidate that was close to leadership material.

Absolute bullshit <doh>

Some of us remember what happened last time the unions had power, it led to three-day weeks, power brown outs, shortages and, in the end, Thatcher.

Looks like you were right, mate.

I know mate, I had a real bad feeling this would happen since the start of the week, still can't quite believe people have actually done it though.

I'm gonna stick my neck out here, and I know this won't be popular with everyone, but in my opinion anyone who voted Tory yesterday is a ****ing arsehole and they can go **** themselves. A pox on your houses you selfish ****ers.

well, I'd rather **** myself than be sold down a river to be ****ed by a rabble of bigotted scots and Stalinist trade unionists

IT'S NOT THE ****ING 70'S ANYMORE!

Half the problem we face with politics in this country is the dissatisfied youth who don't know who to vote for, or don't vote and it opens the way to Conservatism.

This was also the worst result for green policies.

Why don't we have any politicians like Bernie Sanders in England?!

As long as we stick up for the bankers then eh?

If you're old enough to remember the 70's you should know bloody better <doh>
