Peter Woodworth is the executive chef at Maison Tate in Shediac and put in about ten hours on Friday preparing to defend his restaurant's title at the annual Rotary Club chef's competition.
"Mine to lose, mine to keep," he said.
Woodworth says this year, organizers are floating a new idea for event.
"The theme this year is the last dinner of the Titanic," he said. "So it's a very grand event, but it also ties in culinary wise because they ate some incredible food."
Woodworth researched menu options online and settled on
lobster thermidor with
lemon chive gnocchi and
Thai basil gastric.
Pierre Leblanc is one of the organizers from the Rotary Club.
"We said it was kind of different, kind of new, it was something people can kind of associate with and we're hoping nobody is going to drown at the end of the evening," he said.
Pierre Leblanc is with Shediac rotary, one of the event organizers.
Leblanc says the dinner is also a tribute to the ship and the people who were lost that night over 100 years ago.
Three hundred tickets for the dinner have sold out, with the money raised going towards community groups in Shediac.
Woodworth says that alone makes the effort worthwhile.
"We try to always stay to the 'wow factor' and so to bring that wow factor to 300 is a feat, so it's going to be a lot of fun," he said.
Woodworth is competing against four other local restaurants hoping to bring home the prize.
