Looks like Hull council were correct in their decision not to spend £100,000 bringing it to Hull seeing as there is so little interest in it*. No doubt they will spend the money on something which will attract far more interest. Only 57 camera crews from around the world here. I am sure a display of African drumming, or multi cultural basket weaving will bring more people to Hull.

*sarcasm alert

According to a bloke on the radio this morning, with the amount of interest it's generated and the amount of people attracted, they're now expecting a £6 return for every £1 invested and a long term potential return of up to £20 for each £1 invested.

Some people are interested in other things apart from football , if this doesn't interest you feel free to ignore the topic

You're missing the point. I am not for one second suggesting people shouldn't like other sports. I've never said anything to the effect whatsoever. I'm not even saying don't watch the Tour De France. I'm saying you can't just fabricate an event based on the success of an established existing one, nick part of its name and suddenly claim it's ****ing brilliant.

Yorkshire's Cup boat race around East Park lake anyone? Or does anyone fancy popping over to France to watch the inaugural Le Roses Cricket match? Actually L'Ashes test series between France and Luxembourg where they play for the charred remains of a striking farmer's sheep sounds ace.

The fact that the event has attracted such a household name as Waggy, sorry Wiggo, is proof that it is a success.

They already have and it's captured the imagination of a county, the amount of people who have got involved in this event is really quite incredible, you might not be interested, but an enormous amount of people are, over a million people are expected to turn out and watch it. I think it's already ****ing brilliant and I have no interest in cycling at all.

That's the Rugby Union, Rugby League and Crickrt World Cups put in their place then. As for that play-off system football copied from elsewhere...

Again the point I'm making is its got absolutely nothing to do with whether I or anyone else is interested. If they had a cycle race and called it The Yorkshire Bike Ride I wouldnt have batted an eyelid or be making these points. Why is it called Tour De Yorkshire?

Please sir...I think I know this one........is it because it goes through parts of Yorkshire.

If the argument is to stop giving French names to English things and associating being French with being fancy then I'm with you on that bummers.

You will start calling the British Grand Prix the British Grand Prize then?
