He says that it was planned for him to play more games when Bony was here. But it could be argues that when he did play, it was planned that he wouldn't miss so many chances!! I am a fan of Gomis but he doesn't fill me with confidence in terms of goal-scoring ability. Indefensible quotes. I like Gomis as a player and think he'd bang the goals in for us once the team got used to him - he's certainly a more mobile, skillful asset in comparison to Bony's brute strength - easily losing two Chelsea markers with a drop of the shoulder yesterday on more than one occasion - but if he doesn't want to be here and if he's going to do his talking in public on the TV, then eff off.

On another thread an extract from Monk's book was posted - given Gomis' comments which at first look disrespectful - I thought I'd copy our managers' comments about Paulo Sousa:-
“Looking back now,” says Garry, “I'm glad we didn't get into the play-offs with Paulo, as he did not deserve to be the one to take us to the Premiership. He had not earned that right... In terms of the progression Swansea City had made under Kenny Jackett and then Roberto, I saw Paulo's time in charge as a wasted season. Having written that can does he deserve the respect of players in his squad?
While I'm not taken with Gomis, and would be happy to sell him if an alternative can be found before the end of January, there may be more than a grain of truth in what he is saying.

I think the problem clearly lies with SCFC. If he was told he would get game time that eh didn't get he must feel like he was lied to. How would anyone feel under those circumstances. You'd feel cheated and unwanted. Let that go on for a few months and your heart just isn't in it. Yes, he could now try to show Monk that he was wrong, but I guess he's rather show Monk by scoring lots of goals at his next team.

If someone is treated like this and stays, it just makes them seem like a doormat. Even if Gomis stays he probably know that Monk has someone else lined up for the summer. Looks to me like Gomis is the back-up guy and he doesn't want to be. Under these circumstances most people would leave, and I certainly would. Terrible way to treat a play and shows what damage can be done.

This is down to Monk. Much as I like the guy, he's mishandled this situation badly. Gomis has been treated badly enough that he wants to leave. I don't know why so many are blaming Gomis here. He came in good faith and I'm sure he would have fitted in well if given more game time.

I suspect we'll sell him and wait until the summer to get a replacement.

No wonder we played so badly on Saturday. Morale must be really low with Bony gone and Gomis wanting to leave. I thought one of Monk's strong points was getting and keeping a good team spirit. His teat is to turn this situation around. Hopefully he will.

Yes, it did seem that way. I guess Huw just wanted to cash in or maybe another reason. But for Gomis, he gets told something that doesn't happen, so I don't see how he can be blamed for wanting to leave. Bony has left, so Gomis will probably get more game time if he stays, but the trust is now gone. Once trust is gone, nothing much matters. I wouldn't stay and work somewhere if I didn't trust the manager. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I just don't hang out with people I don't trust. Trust in important to me and to many others. I just don't want people like that in my life. Life's too short. Plenty of good people out there, so best to steer well clear of the untrustworthy. And I think that is what Gomis are doing. Some on here claim it's sulking, but it's not. I don't sulk over the untrustworthy. I just get rid of them from my life and move on. It's that simple. That simple for Gomis as well. Bad man management from Monk.

Hell, he got a bunch of flak for benching Bony against QPR by which time Bony was nearly on the plane to Africa anyway.

I blame whoever told Gomis he would be "guaranteed" games - did we learn nothing from the Ki fiasco?!

Maybe Monk could have handled Gomis better on a personal level, but we don't know what was happening behind the scenes, perhaps he did his best to placate him in a difficult situation?

This is a matter of poor timing for Gomis, if we'd signed him now all would have been well, but for me, if he can't see that Bony deserved to play ahead of him and we as a team were unable to adjust so radically to play 4-4-2 during the last 4 months and has subsequently thrown his toys out, he can go.

I suppose the answer to that is not to promise what you can't deliver. I suppose it all depends exactly what was said. Maybe it was said because they assumed Bony was leaving but then didn't leave. So it should have been made clear. It seems obvious that Bony would be first choice even before Gomis arrived. So I don't understand why Gomis was promised game time that he didn't get. Something's not right, but as you say, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes.
