In all seriousness I think talk of sacking him is a bit too soon and frankly is short sighted. He's dug himself a hole, he at least deserves to Christmas to get himself out of it

The two CL games will be the key. Lose both and that could be the end of him. Weirdly lose both and the league form could recover, back to last season with having a full week to prepare, being able to play a full strength and consistent team every week and no European distraction.

    1) last season was the best I have ever seen us play. Ever.

    2) he's young, in manager terms, just like young players should be given time so should Rodgers. He's showed his potential last year.

    3) we are kopites, we show more loyalty than fickle plastic armchair fans

I like the idea of a young manager, but maybe we went to young. Rodgers was 39 when he took over.

Benitez was 45 when he became our manager. Thats only 6 years older but those 6 years were enough for him to gain top level experience with Valencia. Benitez and Rodgers actually have very similar stories. Both retired early through injury and started of coaching kids, over the next 15 years or so they both moved up through the levels, eventually coaching at adult senior level.

Here is Benitez senior career up to joining us:

    1993–1995 Real Madrid B
    1995–1996 Valladolid
    1996 Osasuna
    1997–1999 Extremadura
    2000–2001 Tenerife
    2001–2004 Valencia
    2004–2010 Liverpool

I guess Tenerife were Rafa's Swansea, so maybe we are Rodgers Valencia. But my point here is that those extra years before Rafa joined us are the years that made him as a manager. If we want a young manager maybe we should look for another manager in Rafa's position. Mid 40's with a few years of top level experience instead of being the managers first top level club.

Ofcourse but it's more likely you'll detect the Ancelotti from a Hodgson, then you can a Mourinho from an AVB. Looking around, the league seems to be scattered with young failures. I also believe you can get at least 5 years, if not 10 years out of Bielsa. In this day and age I think the idea of having a manager long term is extremely unlikely. All you can do is build upon an good foundation and Bielsa will give you that.

NO get a real manager and a technical director too.

In fact what i'd do is immediately appoint a technical director and tell rodgers if he doesn't like it he can start thumbing down the road.

No Wenger is out of date. His transfer record isn't much better than Rodgers, only that Wenger actually refuses to buy players.
Not saying Bielsa couldn't do the job, do Bilbao still have the stupid Spanish only rule?

But its much more likely FSG will want another young manager, cause that is their way of thinking.

Hes picked up some decent players along the way. Recently hes added ozil and sanchez so his name carries weight with players.

Reckon hes got another job in him. Maybe away from the premier league but hes possibly one of the best options around. Of arsenal fans get their wish.

Rodgers to arsenal and wenger to liverpool.

nah what you need is a longer term technical director and a 3 year 1st team coach mentality. IF you offer a bright young manager three years off a reasonable foundation to acheive before moving on these days thats what they want.

What do you mean stupid <laugh> and iirc it's actually local basque players. Isn't that what you guys keep going on about, how the ethos is develop youngsters. Should be right up your street. I admire Bilbao for that. Not just bcos they develop local youngsters BUT the fact very few if any actually ever WANT to leave. Loyalty to the club is ****ing religious. I think Llorente and Martinez have been the only recent exceptions under unusual circumstances tbf.

If it's FSG's plans it rules out a lot of good managers and requires a lot of risk taking tbh.

  19. I'm not saying he would or wouldn't be a good fit but he has rebuilt Dortmund a couple of times and he is probably as big a name as we could get, plus a name that would attract players to join too.

Anyway, Brod is our manager and whilst he's still in post he will get my support despite my moaning at his selections and tactics <laugh>
