They don't tend to eat raw fish from the North Atlantic. Life expectancy depends on many factors. The levels of stomach and gastric cancer are much higher in Japan compared to the UK - I'm sure a fish diet and the higher salt and heavy metal levels that accompany it play a part. ESSEX GULL
The foods that are 'clean' will be pumped so full of vaccines and antibiotics that there will be far more danger overall. As long as cooked properly, cod worms pose no threat. If you don't like the possibility of them being there when eaten, eat salted cod - which drives them away, although not sure you can get it easily in the UK. ESSEX GULL
Essex Gull. I've just seen Peter Andre buying ' Lobster' in Iceland. I like Lobster. What's the problem there then?? Oh as an afterthought, I do wolf down those Tesco Seafood sticks. Boy are they Yummy.
Did anyone see that Movie today on telly called Leviathan. A non- dialogue film about Trawler fishing in the Atlantic, with scenes of Fish processing. Pretty good.
The whole fishing industry in England and Scotland will be over in the next couple of decades, unless the companies sharpen up fast - which is criminal considering the enormous increase in worldwide demand for protein and the enormous increase in size of companies such as Marine Harvest...meanwhile Findus is nearly bust and the last remaining processing plants in Grimsby are somehow losing money and staff year on year... bad British management, captain/owner mentalities and complete lack of successive government support has destroyed it. No idea who that is. White crab meat trumps lobster, in my opinion. I don't touch the brown though. ESSEX GULL
I was chatting with a tawlerman in the Ol town pub, last weekend & * He said the franchise Deep sea trawlers today, with their 3 month fishing quota & refrigerated holds on board are ringing through to Hull & Grimsby when entering our waters. Telling the Fish houses of the size of their hold & price there hoping for. But the captain is getting offers far below , any expectants. So there turning the ships around and sailing to France & Italy etc to sell their whole cargo in 1 go. Then go back out again for another catch. They're selling to evry1 else but Hometown Hull.
Well, France and Poland pretty much dominate fish processing in Europe now, so the majority of fish is sold to them (the value-added processors) who then sell on the completed product (filleted, packaged, frozen etc) onto retail. Grimsby is the last of England's large processing areas - Youngs are still there, I believe, but if their management continues as it is, they'll be gone soon. The biggest hope for the UK, was that Tesco would start up their own processing plant and cut out the middle man processors and not just be a retail purchaser in the fish market, but their recent problems have put an end to that. OK, just interested, I used to have to come down to Billingsgate quiet often, and also play golf against the London crowd a couple of times a year, in the days when Fleetwood/Hull/Grimsby/Aberdeen etc used to play each other.

Ah, I'm the other side of the North Sea these days. Didn't know a thing about fish until I moved. ESSEX GULL
