After visiting Bob Carvers (it was ok but not what I remember BC to be), the waitress had to witness me not being able to decide between Haddock or Cod, I got Cod.

So quick survey, Cod or Haddock?

Also darn sarf you tend to get fish without the skin! mental! I'm guessing that's why all northern chippys are better?

Schoolboy error LT. Opened yourself up to a world of abuse. Worm riddled bottom feeders are cod. Haddock every time.

But your first mistake was going to bob carvers. It's a bit **** really. I know in your circumstances you were probably looking for a sit down meal in town, so I would have gone for golden fry. Or maybe even the lion & key.

Have we already established cave street is the best fish? Great customer service anarl.

As a rule:

Scotland - haddock
N Ireland - cod
Wales - cod
East Yorkshire - haddock skin-on
Rest of Yorkshire - haddock skinned
London and SE - cod skin-on
Rest of England - cod skinless

A lot of coastal communities (Grimsby for example) prefer haddock but this has it roots not in their personal taste but the way fish was preserved prior to using ice.
Fish was salted first and then send to the major cities however haddock is not really suitable for this. So cod was salted and sent away whilst the haddock remained in the local fishing communities and eaten by the locals !

My sage pudding was good but was £7! a lot of money for milk, egg and flour

I was trying to be nostalgic, will think twice next time

Back to fish, I think the taste of Haddock is better but I like the large flakes of the Cod (skin on both)

Haddock every time! I thought everyone from Hull agreed with that? And with the skin on it's even better. Which is why Hull Fish & Chips are the best in the world.

Southerners really don't know how to do fish & chips. In fact this side of the Pennines they don't do them too well either. Hull > Rest of Yorkshire > The North > everywhere else

And whoever came up with the stupid idea of frying them in vegetable oil? Beef dripping every time. It's actually healthier too despite common advice.

East Yorkshire, haddock with skin on? Where? Nearly everywhere I have been in East Yorkshire doesn't have skin on. Thank heaven.
