Again, you are altering the words used here slightly - as far as I can see nobody is "expecting" us to hit 100 points either, but surely there's nothing wrong with aspiring to it is there? You say it's happened four times in 14 seasons, which is hardly once in a lifetime stuff so I personally don't see anything wrong with speculating on what might be if we continue the way we have been playing for the past seven games. On paper our squad is comfortably better than anyone else's, ridiculously so, and the players all clearly love playing for the manager and the fans are bang on it again so why not shoot for the moon?

Talking of promo watch, good to see Wilbs knocking them in for Bristol City - that's 7 for him this season so far.

We're also on course for a goal difference of -77. What's the worst GD in Championship history?

You guys stand a good chance of breaking your curse at the Cottage next month!

If someone says something is realistic, to me that means they are expecting it, but I don't want a debate about semantics.

The only reason I'm making such a thing of this is because I don't want everyone to lose their heads if, for a week or two (or maybe more) we drop out of the top two (or heaven forbid, the top six). I saw how most people reacted after the Wolves game, and it was ridiculous bordering on the moronic. We should aim for promotion by any means possible and be delighted if we get it.

    Priorites:

    1. Auto Promo (top 2) - as Champions would be a bonus
    2. Promo via the play-offs

Number of points and number of goals are incidentals and should not cloud what the clubs first aim would be which is of of the two priorites above. If we can achieve the number one priority with 100 goals and 100 points we'll all be delighted but we shouldn't be disappointed if we don't get the 100/100 as long as we go up.

    I think that made sense...

I don't think we're really disagreeing here to be honest, we both want the same things, I'd be more than happy if we were promoted with 85 points and I certainly wouldn't feel short-changed or disappointed if we only scored 60 goals doing it.

My definition of something being realistic means that it is possible within the realms of reason, and for me winning promotion with 100 points is eminently reasonable. If was to say I genuinely think we can win the league and both cups without losing another game then I would be entering the realms of fantasy and I would expect to be shot down and told to get real. 100 points isn't breaking new ground, it has been done before like you say so whilst it certainly isn't the priority or easy to achieve I don't see why we can't realistically aim for it.

As the saying goes, "shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land amongst the stars"

I would love to see us setting a record as well. Doesn't really matter which one. The ones I think are breakable are:
    (1) most clean sheets in a Championship season (currently I think 25 by QPR)
    (2) most goals scored in a Championship season (currently I think 99 by Reading)
    (3) most wins in a season (currently 33 by Doncaster)
    (4) most points in a season (currently 106 by Reading)

They really would be the icing on the cake, but of course I'd take promotion through the play-offs with 69 points (record for the lowest play-off place) with a negative goal difference over a record. But it would be nice!

Incidentally, looking into this I discovered we are now nearly 1/4 of the way to the average number of points needed for a play-off place and 1/5 of the way to the average number of points needed to secure auto-promotion.

When I said "Realistic" what I meant really was there or thereabouts.I would be extremely peed off if we only scored 60 goals though.I extrapolated points and goals from the current average of of 2.3 and 2.14 respectively.Multiply by 42 and you get 97 and 90.So,maybe a bit optomistic. But does anybody see a team we can't score against in this division? I think Wolves might not have too many companions.

We play 46 games Cruyff not 42. At current pace we'd be well
    Over 100 points.

It used to be 42 until the top tier was reduced to 20! It's an age thing CT. Remember what happened 40 years ago but not yesterday! <yikes>

It started with me at 55.I think I'm ok because I can memorise and retain quite detailed information. It's the things you don't bother to think about that catch you out.

With all this talk of aiming for 100+ points and 100+ goals why aren't you talking about going through the rest of the season unbeaten? We do have the best squad in the league.

Seriously though, we have had a fantastic start to the season, I don't think many of us on here anticipated it going this well, but we do still need to keep our feet on the ground. This is a very tough league to get out of, and yes things do appear very rosy now, but we all know all to well how quickly things can change in football.

I am not saying that we shouldn't go into every game thinking that we can win because realistically we can beat any team in this league but to try to set realistic targets based on our results in these first 7 games is a bit unrealistic in itself.

Ok well how about this for realistic? Lose 6 games, the other 40 split 25/15 giving us 90 points.

I can understand the hesitation about setting targets and raising expectations, but that isn't what CT was saying. I think for all of us promotion is the target. If that can be gained with 100 points and/or 100 goals that'd be great, but promotion is the key target. At the moment, there seems to be 5 contenders for automatic promotion:

    Forest 17, City 16, Watford 15, Reading 13, Derby 12.

We are nicely placed, but there is still a long way to go.
