Well if Scotland does gain Independence then the population of the UK will decrease by just over 5 million, I think it's logical to assume that defence spending of rUK will be reduced along with troop/equipment numbers. It makes sense for both sides to agree that Scots Units in the British Army will be reallocated to any Scots Defence Force. The alternative would be for the Army to make redundancies within "English" Units. Some Scots may not want to join an SDF, but if the alternative is redundancy I suspect their choice would soon change.

The English and welsh electorate will make known their feelings to government in the usual ways and the three parties will be left in no doubt that they'll need to take a hard line with the Scottish representatives. As for divorces, they can be be very nasty! Trust me, I know! Only too well
What about the lads that have joined up say in The Blackwatch to get stuck in, only to be told that they'll spend the rest of their careers learning drill? Scotland wouldn't be getting involved in any war zones for at least a decade, it's inevitable the armed forces would stay United under any eventuality I think Scotland would just contribute to the MOD, at least for the foreseeable future. I know a few commandos from my course two from Scotland and they both joined to 'kill and shoot terrorists'... bit of a difference in job descriptions, killing and practising on sandbags in the local forest. Even if you had manpower and kit, there's no way you'd be operational inside 10 years, there's all kinds of kit in the air we rent from the Yanks that you'd have no permissions to use for example.

If Scotland joins NATO they'll be working for their pay but that's still at least 18 months away. They will probably still work hand in hand with the British Army anyway, I don't see that changing. Afghanistan is coming to an end and apart from that there are no UK ground forces engaged anywhere else and despite the current threat in Iran/Syria/Iraq that's unlikely to change in the time between a YES vote and the 18 month changeover period. So the rUK troops will be sitting on their hands for the forseeable future too.

Scotland leaving will be like the separation of co-joined twins. More often than not, the weaker one dies. It won't be England.
So Scotland will die? Which other countries who have voted for Independence have died, I don't know of any.
Other countries didn't have the vast amounts of social spending like Scotland and the hope of an every flowing oil wealth to support it after Independence.
